Forums - Gaming - So Microsoft will release their next console in 2013

As we have no concrete info, anything I say is just my opinion based on how things when this and other gaming generations.

1. It will release alongside a PS4 by holidays 2013.

2. They will only be marginally more powerful to WiiU. The difference will be similar to PS2 to Xbox. This will allow them to keep an edge while not going crazy on costs.

3. Only WiiU will launch with a profit. MS/Sony will want to remain close in price while still being slightly more powerful. However, the losses incured will be far less than PS3's and probably close to what X360 saw.

4. Why the hell do people think a 10 year cycle has anything to do with when the successor is launched? Its only related to how long that product will remain supported. Just as PS2 is on its 11th year; PS3 will remain on shelves through 10 years.

1. I think the next xbox will release late 2013/early 2014.

2. I think xbox will be willing to make an initial loss on the next xbox. They made a loss with the original xbox and initally incurred losses on xbox360. I think they will be willing to loose some money up front to get the greater power/multimedia capabilities that will be expected in the next gen.

3. No i dont think that sony will stick with a 10 year plan. With the other next gen consoles releasing, they will have no choice but to release as well - probably in late 2014

As for your #4, I say that is bull. If thats the case, why even bring up a ten year cycle? I think they wanted the PS3 to be their console for ten years on account of how much they lost on it. They wanted to make as much of that money back as they could before trying to launch another console. But the Wii U is causing them to rethink.

1) I would go with this.

2) Again I agree. No one knows how much x360 makes because it is lumped into EDD, some people just don't get that this department is far bigger than x360. They can afford to loose money on the next xbox initially because other parts of EDD can cover this.

3) Yep, I think Sony would be forced into releasing another console long before that 10 year span expires.

i still lol at the people who think the 10 year plan means that console and only that console for those 10 years. Just face the simple fact that the 10 year plan means 10 years of support, how hard is that. Many companies for a wide variety of products support there previous product despite there new and better successor product for some times many many years later. In gaming Examples: Nintendo Entertainment System was supported in Japan to something like 2003, PS1 was supported to like 2005-6 something like that, and the PS2 is still going 11 years later despite the PS3 was released 5 years ago. Also to answer Why mention the 10 year plan, its a show of investment, the PS3 was a large investment for the consumer, sony was saying that dont worry your machine will be supported for 10 years which differently makes up the initial investment.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I dont know why people keep saying this. From what i have been hearing, it seems pretty clear that when sony talk about a 10 year plan, they mean to introduce the ps4 10 years after the ps3. I dont see the sense in them touting a 10 year plan simply for ps3 support when there is a ps4 on the market - they didnt do this for the ps2. Also, when they launched the ps3, considering the money they were loosing the only way this made sense was if the ps3 was going to be the current gen console for a long period of time aka 10 years.

Slightly more powerful then Wiiu ? With AMD saying avatar like graphics and outperforming anything what could be seen upto now on PC and the fact xbox 360 had a top notch gpu by the time of its release the fact that wiiu has a r770 =4xxx possibly 4850 and a 45 nm power 7 which is huge with this stepping so probably just 4 cores and 3.2 ghz we can make an educated guess that even when avatar like graphics is just exaggerated the part with unseen graphics pc included is not fiction.
wiiu will be weak compared to xbox 720. the whole thing will be almost as the wii ps3/xbox360 relation but see for yourself how graphics will make a sudden jump (for pc too) with the xbox 720. battlefield 3 on pc is a glimpse what awaits us . just as half life 2 was a glimpse.

Pro tip: Buy the extended warranty thru MS if you plan on buying a launch 720.

With rumors of it being "Avatar level graphics" we can obviously say the WiiU will be about as bad graphically as the Wii is the 360 right now (if the Avatar level graphics is true and not BS, but I think It's not going to be THAT good)

I also don't see it being released before 2013. Halo 4, Crytek's Kinect Game and Fable On Rails are all supposed to be out in 2012. Why would MS release a 720 and Halo 4 in the same year? MS is probably planning on some FPS, Forza 5 and a few other games for the launch of the 720 in 2013.

It's just that simple.

I know that the 10 year life cycle thing doesn't mean that it will be Sony's only console for 10 years, but that said I think the ps4 is father off then people think, ps3 is still $300 5 years later, it's doing very well and devs have finally gotten a grip on the hardware on top of that Sony is making games for it that won't come out till atleast 2013 so holiday 2013 is the absolute earliest the ps4 will come out but unless ps3 hardware or software sales drop I really don't see why Sony would release a new console and I think they will take their time making great games for the ps4 launch and wait for hardware to come down in price, everyone says what an advantage the 360 had because of the 1 year start but wii outsold it easily enough and unlike ps2, ps3 is the most powerful console this gen, it might beable to hold it's own on the early gen multiplats there were 360/ps2 games and the gap between those 2 machines is going be alot more then ps3/next xbox
