My parents have an iPad 2 that I've used a bit.

Its okay I guess, all it is, is a larger and slightly more powerful iPhone 4. Its useful for internet, watching videos and playing stupid $0.99 apps. Beyond that I'll stick with my laptop.

A tablet isn't gonna cut it for my schoolwork, and it certainly doesn't replace the need for a home computer/laptop.

My father is a pilot and has one strapped to his leg and uses it for viewing flight maps. Tablets are starting to get used for things a laptop can not do.

Yeah that's why they released 20+ models of mechanical keyboards in last two years and those $100 models are flying off shelves at never seen before rate ;)

i may look into one.

I own one Archos android tablet, it is ok for videos and checking email.

A while back i was seriously considering getting one. After much research, i decided not to. I already had a laptop for school work and it just did more than any tablet running Android or an Ipad.
I came to the conclusion that even though they are convenient for quick web browsing and some nice apps, it's plain consumerism.
However, they are improving and should get better in a year or two. When i need a new laptop, I'll reconsider getting one (In a few years).

I can use a touchscreen. It's just that I really know how to type. I took classes on typing in high school. I can type without ever looking down with a traditional keyboard. How can I do that on a touchscreen? It's just an image on a screen.

I will buy a tablet when:

1. They are cheaper, the good apple tablets are expensive here in Aus, compared to that of the PSV which is going to be cheap and is more powerful and i am going to use them to play games since touch screen keyboards are ass.

2. They need a hard keyboard, a tablet with a keyboard that slides out would be a step in the right direction

3. Better operating systems, the current smart phone ios and android platforms have some work before coming more practical laptop replacement system.

4. I want it to be as powerful as a laptop and as functional. I want to do everything on a laptop on a tablet. Now looking at the Macbook Air, its not that hard to make a macbook air with the screen flip over thats multi touch and the keyboard sliding out.

Once they have tablets that are as powerful as a laptop as well as do what laptops can do now, then yes i will buy a tablet, until then the current simple apps, causal gaming internet machine that can be all done with a phone can sit in the store.

I don't have a Tablet yet but will most likely pick up the next iPad.
