Forums - Politics - Why do people vote?

If all young people thought that way, the Conservative party would win every election - I wouldn't complain, but I'm sure that most of you guys would.

This is a great question as people are so blind and stupid they just vote for whatever candidate, for example if a person's family always voted republican that person will vote republican too without any actual knowledge of what the candidates views are.

Another prime example of public stupidity is when Obama ran for presidency, I guarantee people only voted for him simply because he was black and it would make history if he were to win, big whoop.

Cause the conservative party really is conservative.....  Both parties suck and if you can't admit that then you are living in a phantasy poop land where all the politicians bowel movements are sent so they won't soil the earth.  Face the facts.  USA political system is a pure fucking joke.  You have both parties acting like they are in grade school fighting with the all important name calling.  I could shit out a turd and it accomplish more for the country than what USA politician can do in their entire "career".

I can almost guarantee that the UK political system is just as bad as the USA one.

@radishhead, at least you have a better system than winner takes all. Proportional representation isn't perfect either but at least if you vote for a smaller party then you have an opportunity to send that party to parliament. Winner takes all (two party system) in USA makes me not want to vote at all. I want my vote to at least count. Granted the party might only get a few seats, but at least they got some seats! Making my vote not entirely worthless. If I was to vote for libertarian, green party, or any other party in USA then I might as well not even vote.

You're right not everyone is a follower, but the majority is, why do you think every state is listed as democratic or republican? That's because the majority vote the same as everyone else while you may get a few people like you and myself whom aren't brainwashed.

It is hard to say how many people follow the same political views as their parents, but I will admidt there is probably a lot. I just think that is it was compleatly true political views would never change if belief systems were passed on almost all the time. Yes, amnd your point is certainly valid that regional continuity in political power in most states does probably reflect that children often form the same beliefs as their parents.
