Forums - Music - What do you think of the new Dream Theater single?

Its the first one off their upcoming album with their new drummer, Mike Mangini.

I think its fantastic - great balance of all instruments with some noted synth lines, fantastic guitar and bass riffs, and some stellar work by the new drummer.

But don't take my word for it, listen to it on YT:

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Ok, let me check it, I like progressive music a lot, progressive metal as well, but my favorite CD from Dream Theater is Scenes From A Memory, by the way if you like rock check this video I made in Youtube of progressive rock and music in general http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUmfkl5-F5Y

I have been a Dream Theater fan since I first heard the cd, Images and Words. The new song gets better everytime I listen to it. It isnt too proggy, too metal or too anything. Its a perfect balance of all the elements that make DT who they are.

Oh, and Mangini is a friggin monster on the drums.

I have to admit that the last and only album I heard and own of DT is Train of Thought. However, this song is simply epic, although I was a bit confused by the synthesizer (?) elements in the song. On the other hand, I like the song's power and the voice is brilliant in this one.
In the end, I think they have an awesome freshness in this song which shows that they move on but without losing their "identity".

Its pretty good, I cant wait to see them perform this live when I go see them in Oct.

Mike Mangini was a perfect fit for them as he was probably the only one who could replace Mike Portnoy without the band missing a beat.

Excellent, as usual, and Mangini is astounding; seems to be a fantastic replacement for Portnoy.

I already have the CD/DVD preordered on Amazon... can't wait!

And I'm pretty sure that Petrucci will play guitar in God's band.

Mixed Feelings. I have listen to it more times before judge, also I have to get my hands on the final album.

Got my tickets for the Pittsburgh show next month!!

it still sounds dream theater, thats all that matters.
but Live performance is where the drummer is going to be judged right, since this is studio recording.
i would love if Kevin Moore came back, he is one of my favorite keyboard players.

That is an incredible song.
