Hopefully never, and hopefully ps4 wont have it either. It really is a trivial feature that adds nothing. Just something to bring up in arguements why a product is superior which makes it seem like its more important than it really is. I never like being on vent or team speak for my guilds or clans in WoW, EQ, or CSS. I would just be in the chat with the volume down because I was forced to be in the rooms while playing or raiding. While I'm playing a game I dont want to be annoyed with people trying to talk to me...

well said, I don't bother chatting with people in the game I'm playing, why would I bother chatting with people playing other games

I don't know about you but I actually have real friends that have PSN accounts, and I would like to talk to my friends while just mindlessly playing games. If I was going to play a serious narritive game, like MGS4, then I wouldn't talk to them. And there's nothing forcing you to talk about the games your playing, why does it matter if your friend is playing COD and you're not, you can talk about anything.

All of my 20 PSN friends are real life friends. Multiple of them I see daily... I can talk to them about those things over the phone through voice or text, facebook, or skype. Or how about this... they come over and play with me... Me and my friend just played through infamous 2 swapping every death or every few missions or so...

I think a statement such as " It really is a trivial feature that adds nothing." just makes it look like you're trying to downplay a feature millions use everyday and do find useful (thats a fact and not opinion).  I agree it's importance is overplayed by some but then again it's the same when people discuss a console having 2 or 3 more exclusives a year when there is 10+ multiplatform games released of equal quality for the consoles in that year.  You cannot have it both ways.

I gather you were never a particular good CSS player if you couldn't concentrate and use Vent or Teamspeak while playing.  The only time I'd ever get annoyed is if you had someone in the channel bleeding the mic with background noise when they spoke, this was infrequent though as I played with gamers I enjoyed talking to which is the exact same thinking behind console platform chat.  You play with people that aren't going to irritate you with crap all night, thats no different than any other social interaction.

In summary, I'm of the opinion that you've really not got a clue what you're talking about or enjoy playing with ass hats who cannot behave im a chat channel to have a opinion that it's not useful at all...

I was told by an employee at SCEJ that they worked on it but were not able to accomplish the task. That person also did coding work on the Vita which will have the feature.

The PS3 was not built with the allocated RAM resources to allow chat and games simultaneously... or something like that.
I am not lying about this.

This is true, I think they tried to add it in when they added in-game XMB but the PS3 hardware simply does not have enough RAM for both the game and voice chat to function simutaneously.

Answer: The PS3 will never get cross game chat, but the PS4 and Vita will have it at launch.

I think it will really soon. Since they've added the feature to Vita and they've been saying that they're "Working on it", "Looking into it" and that "They know that the community wants it". I wouldn't be surprised if they launched it alongside the PlayStation Vita or before it.

If not in an upcoming psn update then probably ps4, but hopefully it'll come on an update soon...
