seriously that's the half witted logic snk tried running for the neo geo

Not gonna happen. The PSX and PS2 didn't start off at $600. Most of the sales for these systems came when they were reduced to $150 and had a huge "Greatest Hits" collection. By the time PS3 gets to $150, Nintendo and MS will have already made their next generation systems. MGS4 and FFXIII may be systems sellers, but have they sold $600 systems?

I dunno if this really is a valid point but doesnt the value of a dollar decrease over time? I always thought the 600 dollars today was around 400 dollars maybe 10-15 years ago... maybe if someone can explain?

In truth it does have the best shot at hitting 100million, there are 120million ps2 owners.. who will most likely upgrade to the PS3 after a price drop..

MS cannot counter a price drop by Sony as easily as you all think... they cannot continue losing more and more and more....

Nintendo on the other hand... Flawless Victory!

No, $600 is $600. No one is thinking, "Well hey, $600 was $400 ten years ago, so why not." 

In truth? What truth? Prove to me that PS3 will sell 100M. Consumer loyalty hangs on by thin thread, a company can make one mistake and the relationship is broken. If what you say is true then most of the cars in the US would be American. However, foriegn vehicles (namely Japanese) outsell American vehicles. Primarily because they are cheaper and more reliable.

 FF13, GT5, MGS4, GTA4 - thats what will sale 100 million.

and what car BS is that ? Japanese cars tend to be more expensive,  they sale on reliability and strong brand name.  American cars dont sale well because they have a well desreved rep as being POS quality cars.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

Wow this is a fun thread. The amount of sony bashing is as strong as ever i see. So it's time for list wars. From now until the end of the year the ps3 has the best line up of games coming out, the xbox360 is a close second with the wii way out in third. If you don't think thats going to effect sales then your in for a big supprise.

 PS3 sales aren't Gamecube bad. The PS3 is selling worse than the Gamecube in Japan at this point. The PS3 is at the 24 week mark. This his how both the GC and PS3 performed in Japan after 24 weeks.

 Heh... well by half I suppose that was being a little too harsh, there are 9 games with a bit of a stretch on a couple of them (Boogie, RE4, Dewy and FFCC) but take them away and there are at least 5 more TOP games that fit into the quality catagory you've used for all the games in these lists.

The lineup for Wii looks so different though, I'm so glad I got a good specced PC!
