Indusrygamers Xbox 360 is likely to be the top selling console in the U.S. June NPD sales report releasing this Thursday, according to Wedbush Securities. Analyst Michael Pachter has forecast 355,000 units sold (down 21%), compared to 325,000 Wii units (down 23%), 290,000 DS units (down 43%), 240,000 PS3 units (down 21%) and 165,000 3DS units. Overall, the month of June didn't appear to treat the U.S. games industry well, as Wedbush estimates that software sales dipped 6% to $500 million while hardware dropped 21%. It was a very light release schedule likely driven by Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS), Take-Two’s Duke Nukem Forever (PS3, 360, PC), and Sony’s Infamous 2(PS3) with continued strong sales of Take-Two’s L.A. Noire. Pachter reiterated that price cuts are now needed to spark further hardware sales in order to boost additional software sales this year. "In our view, given the 3DS’ weak debut and the likely limited impact from May’s Wii and June’s DS Lite price cuts, a rebound is unlikely to happen until Microsoft and Sony cut the price of their consoles. Given the phenomenal sales growth that the Xbox 360 console has seen this year, we believe Microsoft will wait until the holidays or until sales decline before considering a price cut," he said. http://www.industrygamers.com/news/xbox-360-to-lead-june-hardware-sales---pachter/
