The DS was my first ever console, followed by the Wii. Based off of those two (especially the latter) I've come to the conclusion it is best for me to wait until the later part of a gaming console's lifetime before making a purchase.
As far as gaming goes, I need variety, and I need the platform to have good games in as many genres as possible so that I can purchase a game on a whim and not be disappointed.

I also find it easier for me to appreciate the 'good' games after I've already played the 'great' games, and those usually only appear later in the system's life. Otherwise I sometimes get this feeling of dissatisfaction and have to wait two more years for the much improved sequel to fix many of the things that bothered me with the first game.

Then again, all this just may be due to my poor choice of consoles to adopt early up till now

as a rule of thumb i never get a system in its launch as they usual suck, Vita is the only 1 that im seriously thinking about getting ASAP i cant get enough of Uncharted.

I think that's a good rule to go by. I got the DS six months after launch and the Wii less than a year after launch. In both cases I feel like I should've waited at least another year if not more. The Wii in particular, I feel, didn't accumulate enough good games and also start to have a better quality of consistent releases until 2009.
For the DS I had enough good games to play at the time, since I was visiting Japan in 2005 and got a lot of niche stuff that didn't make it to the west until later (if at all), but I still would have preferred the lite to the phat

my god the phat sucked so badly, i hated that thing

It's been a week since my purchase and i agree! the 3DS is a really good console and you can see that when it gets the games, it will be even better. The 3D is really good as you've said and the augmented games give you a great preview for later on. Hopefully we get some innovative games and some old school ones as well the way the DS did.

I would hold on a bit till the holidays though since the 2 games that are worthwhile imo are SF4 and Zelda (I need to get this game!). And i also agree that the DS games look much better on the 3DS. Great post man!

i 2nd this, i own both those games already and played them to death, waiting 4 more games

I'm headed home from the mall (stopped for milkshakes) and I noticed something. I go out of my way to walk past crowds, now. It's the "Street Pass" effect!

*got three Mii's today, btw.

I've downloaded like every E3 video and my most anticipated are MK, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion... They all look superb. Even Star Fox looks sweet... I think by new year's I'll be more than satisfied with my 3DS

In every Nintendo handheld generation redesigned model highly improved upon original system. 3DS is good but I'm sure 3DS lite will be much better. And I have no problem waiting ~2 years for it. Especially since for now the only game I'm interested is OoT (which I already played on N64).

Totally agree.

I bought the 3DS on launch day but I soon started to regret my purchase. But with the launch of the eShop (ExciteBike, Pokedex, videos) and the ability to move your DSi games over it started to get interesting again. I also had a spare 1000 points card and purchased some DSiWare games to play on the 3DS.

And just yesterday we came back from a week long trip to Berlin. I met more than half a dozen people via street pass. It's really cool. Berlin is crowded with asian people wearing cat ears, apparently

That's awesome. There's this guy called James in my neighborhood with a 3DS who like to wear a Kokiri hat. :) And apparently there are lots of people to add to your mii plaza in Future shops and shopping malls.

My Mii's got a Pikmin hat haha But the cat ears are truly scary.

@d21lewis: Yeah I noticed that, too. It makes you go to crowded places. Shopping for videogames must be truly exciting with street pass turned on

Since buying the 3DS at launch I cant make up my mind if it's worth the purchase (yet) or not. On day 1 I would have said yes because it really is a nice system and the 3D does work! On top of that the AR cards were a nice surprise. They're a great example of what the 3DS can do. But after about a week that would've changed to no as there was just very little to play. I even got fed up of taking the 3DS out just to see if anyone else would get picked up (they never did).

Probably like a lot of people I bought one hoping Zelda OoT would land close to lauch... but it didnt. It's safe to say I barely touched the system from the day it arrived until the day OoT was launched. But around E3 time when the store opened things got more interesting. I purchased Zelda DX and played that for hours on end, then not long after OoT was finally released. Around that time I would've said "yes buy one". The 3D works very well, it's a great game and the extra features make it woth another play through if you've played it before. The only flaw is probably one of my own making. The 3D keeps giving me double vision even a low setting! I'm pretty sure my eyes need testing... so really that's a positive right?

But saying that is it worth buying an expensive system for 1 game? Really in my opinion unless you're a Zelda fan you're probably better off waiting until around Christmas time. At least then there's Zelda, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus (USA) and Super Mario with other titles much closer to launch (Resident Evil etc). The 3D is nice but I dont think it's a big enough reason alone to pick up the system, like any console software is key.

About the 3D part, if you're near sighted, and have different degrees in each eye. That will cause double vision. So, put on your glasses/contacts and that should fix the double vision.

I would if I had any... Really need to get my eyes tested! But I never would have done had it not been for the 3DS :)
