Forums - Gaming - Think there's a problem with my Red Dead Redemption disc... :(

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me, otherwise I may be stuck with a busted game.

(Some slight spoilers lie ahead for RDR, because my problem comes late in the game)

I just got to the part where you get your ranch and your family back.  I did three missions (one where you have to shoot crows and scare them from your corn, and another where you have to bring corn to Bonnie, and one where you have to buy some cattle from Bonnie).  After completing those missions, I've been attempting to access more, but to no avail.

The 'J' and 'U' that I'm supposed to go to to get more missions appear on the map, but I cannot start the missions, even when I go there during the right times.  For instance, if I go to 'J' (Jack), late at night, it says to come between 7 am and 6 pm.  So I wait and come back at 8 am, and it says 'this family member isn't here right now.  Come back later.'  The problem?  The family member is actually sitting right in front of me.  I waited there an entire in-game day, and at no point was I able to start the mission.  It is the same deal with the 'U' mission.

I thought that maybe there was another mission I had to complete first, but no other missions are available to me right now.  I thought maybe I had to finish some more sidequests, but that didn't help either.  I saved the game and reset the system, and it still happened.  Leaving the ranch and returning did nothing.  Cleaning the already-clean and scratch-free disc did nothing, as did killing a man in cold blood (although I didn't really expect that to--it helped me in a different way).

Can anyone offer me any suggestions?  I would be eternally grateful, as I love this game and really want to see it through to its conclusion.

It's the Xbox version, if that means anything.

Thanks! :)

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Actually, I have tried that too, to no avail :

Happened to me, too. Then, it just worked. I didn't do anything special. I just let some time pass. Give it a couple of days (in game time). Problem will likely correct itself.

Thats sounds like some kinda time issue, Delete and Start Over if d21lewis idea fails

Thanks for the uggestion, but I have no desire to do that.  I've put over 50 hours into this game (I believe I am almost at the end of the story), and even if I did get all the way back to this point, there's not guarantee that I wouldn't encounter the same problem again.

Thanks for the suggestion, though :)

Also, thanks @d21lewis, that gives me hope.  I'll try again tomorrow.  If it doesn't work, guess I'll just watch the rest of the game on Youtube and be done with it :S
