Let me say that I'm not really a big fan of RPG's,but even I have noticed that RPG's have been severly lacking this gen. I'm a big FPS fan,but even I'm getting alittle burnt out on FPS. I mean it seems like there's been 10X the amount of FPS and other types of games,then there has been RPG's. I mean why is that? Has the RPG genre become a niche market. Do,they just not sell anymore? Like I said,I'm not a big fan of the genre,but I'll play them,if there really good and have decent game play. I've played the first dragon age and fallout new vegas (if you want to consider that an RPG).  So,to all of you RPG fan's out there,what's with the lack of RPG's this gen? Maybe you can help me understand this better.

There's been TONS of RPG's this gen

Its just that they are nearly all coming from the West. JRPG's have been very rare this gen but thats mostly due to poor development from Japan this gen.

It seems the TC doesn't own a DS or PSP.

Either way the best RPG of this year is coming out on Wii (Xenoblade)...but it is for EU only for now.

Sure,there's been some,but it just seems to me that it's been either one FPS after another are one TPS after another. Those genres seem to far outnumber RPG's. I would probably consider the JRPG's the true RPG's,but again you would probably know better then me,but that's just my perspective.

I own a 3DS,does that count? lol

There are loads on the DS, PSP and (in Japan) Wii.

It's just a lot of them never get localised. For example, Xenoblade is EU only, and Earth Seeker, The Last Story, Tales Of Graces (Wii) AND Pandora's Tower are all stuck in Japan for the Wii.

JRPG's are out there. But they won't be coming to a Wii anywhere near you anytime soon, sadly.

A lack of RPG's is Japan issue as they usually carry the genre.. Its less RPG's its Less console RPG's. Companies like SE are taking waaay to oong with everything.. then theres the issue of localization

the ones that are coming are on PSP and DS mostly. Because its much cheaper and faster to make an RPG for those. Console JRPGs this gen are not being made because of expense. JRPGs have never been cheap to make in comparison to other genres. It sucks because it feels like we are back in the SNES games and i dont see that changing any time soon
