Someday when you will have children how will you go about moderating your kids gaming habits?

I mean will you not let them play violent games till their of a certain age? (even if you did the opposite when you were young)

Would you scold em if they play too much while neglecting homework? (something ALL of us on here have done at some point I think lol)

Would you FORCE your gaming likes/dislikes onto the,....say you hate FPS games...would you make sure they don't play them just cus you hate the genre?

In general all of us on here have made our parents annoyed by our gaming habits at some point (I have mannny times)....so as a gaming loving parent how will you deal with your children if they love gaming and do "mistakes" you yourself did?

First of all, don't you think it would be better if you replaced "when" with "if" int the thread title? Not anyone wants kids you know.

Anyways, I f I ever have a child, it'll be allowed to play only age appropriate games (see rating on the box), and will only be able to play violent games when it's old enough (providing it doesn't show any sign of being psychotic). Obviously it won't be allowed to neglect it's homoework, and will lose video game rights in that situation. Education is an important issue for me.

Get my kids hooked using the common drug "Nintendo". Then, let them find their way. Worked for me, I managed to fine-tune that balance fantastically. Freedom of choice will be the key in my plan.

Also, "if" you want to have kids? If you don't want kids, you have no heart.

By the time I have kids video games will just be movies that you wave at occasionally.

How can you not want kids?

I will force upon them the history of gaming that I experienced.

First off they will get a NES and Super Mario Bros 3, Double Dragon and most importantly MEGA MAN 3, then they get a SEGA to experience Sonic.
Then they get a PS 1 for Crash Bandicoot, TEKKEN and The Legend of Dragoon. Then an N64 for Golden Eye and Star Wars Podracing.

After this I crack out the Dreamcast for Sonic Adventure and Shenmue. At this point I introduce them to RTS games such as Age of Empires, Cossacks, Red Alert 2 and Shogan Total War.

From there they get an Xbox and Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Knights of the Old Republic and Fable from there they get introduced to the seventh gen and onward.

Imay have made a few honourable mentions as far as games go, but there would be many more. This would be done from a young age and would advance every birthday.

I may have to edit this post later if it is poorly laid out, posting from a 3DS it is difficult to judge and time consuming.

When I have kids they will be allowed to play violent games depending on content.

Blood = 7 years of age

Flying body parts from injry = 10 years of age

Over 10 I will allow them to see any game unless it contains sexual content.

With homework...its very simple...as long as they know the topic and the subject and do well in tests I won't be too harsh, I myself know how useless homework was for any subject not called Maths. If they don't do upto standard in class test etc usage will be limited but never banned....banning only makes them revolt.

They will be forgiven many times...I will never completely ban them from anything.

Just remove kids and wife from the equation then you don't have to change your habits ^^ simple
