Forums - Gaming - Will EA ever get the FPS genre back from Activision?

No. FPS will return to Nintendo. They've reclaimed fighter, racer, sports so it's just RTS and FPS to go.

If EA wants any chance at retaking the FPS genre they have to go back in time a bit to the days of local multiplayer. Sure some FPS fans don't mind playing over the internet but every single CoD fan I know plays local mutliplayer. I've been to countless LAN parties back when COD4 came out playing COD4 on multiple TV's. I have gone to even more parties where we play four player on the screen. Heck not even parties I have friends over and go to friends houses just to play four player.

Then their is co-op, sure it wasn't the biggest selling feature for MW2 because campaign couldn't be played co-op. But for Halo as an example gamers want to play together online or off. I know that one of the huge draws for Halo everyone coming together to get all the acheivments and conquer the game.

Without these two things EA is lagging behind big time. Their choice to go graphics over gameplay is what is costing them the generation. Split screen is a nescessity to many gamers whether it be co-op or multiplayer. Either way EA is ignoring a huge chunk of the market.

This is true. I doubt splitcreen would work because of the large maps aren't made for 4 players or less.

Yah and EA is also missing a marketing opertunity. When I went to pick up CoD MW2 when it came out their were alot of girls, I asked around and all of them said they played the game with their boyfriends or female friends and got hooked. I also know two of my friends who bought MW2 because they played MW at my house.

Fact is with split screen people come over and play at your house. Like the game so much they go out and buy it. I wonder how many sales that actually garner's but I bet its alot. People play the game together like it so much they go out and buy it.

But EA's games don't work that way. Everyone playing already owns a copy and friends coming over aren't going to want to take turns their all going to want to play!

Either way lack of Split screen is a major loss for EA.

Someone should do a post EA vs Activision. I would like to know how many would buy battlefield 3 over MW 3. Are will you stay with Activision MW 3. Will you be the true gamer and purchuse both. Like I have said before, they both look good.

I did a "Call of Duty vs Battlefield" thread in the past, but it got ignored.

I don't have the privilege yet to make my own post but I going to get there.

At the present time my answer is "No" The biggest hope EA has got right now is Battlefield 3 but according to Americas per order chartz BF is getting dominated by both the PS3 and Xbox 360 version (Even though I find Americas preorder chart always low for Cod on PS3 Cod is still dominating) And BF doesn't have that much of a market in EMEAA while Call of Duty is the biggest game there. The only outcome is that Call of Duty will end up destroying itself just like what happened to Guitar hero.

I can do it.

Not this gen.

4 ≈ One

I don't doubt that BF3 will be a better game than MW2, but it isn't going to sell nearly as much.

Eventually, Activision will run CoD into the ground like they did Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk, but that day is still pretty far away. Sales are increasing with every iteration.

If EA can keep up the quality when that happens, then and only then will they take the sales crown.
