Meh, its the natural cycle of the industry. Sequels, sequels, and more sequels. As long as they continue to be quality though, I don't really care that much about new IPs.

Granted some more things might be announced, but there is always going to be some overlap between years.
2007 games with no 2012 sequel planned (to the best of my knowledge)
World in Conflict
Ratchet & Clank: TOD
Uncharted
Supreme Commander
Forza 2
Unreal Tournament 3
PGR4
Metroid Prime 3
Crysis
Portal
Team Fortress 2
HL2: Episode 2
Super Mario Galaxy
Motorstorm (outside Japan)
Crackdown
Heavenly Sword
Mario Party 8 (Is 9 a 2011 or 12 game?)
Phantom Hourglass
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Rock Band
Guitar Hero III (not sure if these have any 2012 versions planned, but people definitely won't care like in 2007)
Lord of the Rings Online
Stuff that hasn't been announced, but might come out in 2012.
Bound to be another Call of Duty, but probably not Modern Warfare
There will probably be another Assassin's Creed as well, but I don't think it has been announced.
Burning Crusade, once again, a good chance of another WoW expansion in 2012.
God of War II, hard to say.

Was just thinking, for 2012 were going to get a new Halo, Mass Effect, and Bioshock. Then I realized that was fall 2007.
I also forgot Assassin's Creed.

Does the industry revolve around Halo, Mass Effect Bioshock and Assassin's Creed?

Well Bizarre Creations was broken up after Activision wasn't happy with their performance. So PGR makes sense. However if Super Mario 3DS is delayed until 2012, that's a sequel for Super Mario Galaxy, and who knows, maybe Wii U will open with a Super Mario game again.
Also, these games are all smaller then the big four I mentioned. The bigger games are still being remade.
and Mario Party 9 is fall 2011.

Uhh not really. Most games tend to have two or three year dev cycles, so years are bound to follow a pattern. Don't know how that makes the industry 'revolve' around them. You could say the same about 2009 being similar to 2011: Killzone 2 - KZ3 inFamous - inFamous 2 Demon's Souls - Dark Souls Uncharted 2 - UC3 R&C: ACiT - R&C: A4O Forza 3 - Forza 4 Halo ODST - Halo CE Batman AA - Batman AC Assassin's Creed 2 - ACR Dragon Age origins - DA2 N4S Shift - Shift 2 unleashed Modern Warfare 2 - MW2 |
Good point. I guess Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty are now just yearly installments.
Still, lots of "3's" next year.
