Forums - Sony - Who Bought a PS3 Only Because it is One of the Cheapest Blu-Ray Players?

SuperDave said:
buying it for the blu-ray only is a little pricey imo, besides, I think a lot of people(myself included) are just going to sit back and let this format war sort itself out over the next 4-5 years and hop on when the players and movies are cheap with whichever format wins.

I was looking at the MultiBlu player by LG but after getting burned last DVD generation by buying a few $800+ DVD players because they had better sound, progressive scan, etc. before any others, and then six months later seeing them as standard features on $100 players I decided I would never spend that much on just a movie playing device again.

I hope more multi-players come out in the future.  It is the best way to end the format war.  Players that can do both at reasonable prices (sub $200).

Ya, I suspect that'll start appearing over the next couple of years, since it was exactly what happened in the standard DVD format wars(if they can be called that).

I hate to be baised on the subject, but I'd personally prefer the Blu-Ray NOT to win, only because I don't tend to appreciate Sony's higher(generally) prices for their products that aren't(imo) any better then the competition.

Just curious.  I have four PS3's now, three are only used as a blu-ray device and the fourth I play games on...

I am curious if the sales numbers would be significantly different had there been $199 or $99 blu-ray players all over the marketplace.

You do realize that you're posting this question on a site called VGChartz, right? We're hardly the demographic you're looking for. You need to post this on an A/V-centric forum like avsforums.

Posting a question like that here is akin to going to ILoveTitties.com and asking how many people go to Hooters for the chicken wings.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

I bought mine for gaming but when I got my HDTV in summer I said "why not" and got 300 on blu-ray and now I use it for both. I currently have 13 games and 10 blu-rays. On a side note, lol that was great rocketpig.

high def movies are pointless, upscaling dvds is fine. Also dvds are like way cheaper.

It isn't a worthy investment untill one wins the war. When I do get a PS3 it will be used for games only. FFXIII and MGS4 that is about it.

I will then by a stand alone bluray or hd dvd player depending on price and If i cbf upgrading for a slight picture increase.

PS3 is a very good upscaler as well, and the quality you get, even out of that is not as good

Dude, I doubt you have 4 ps3. With that money you supposedly speand, why not buy an actual blu ray player. This thread fails!

Cause he wanted one in every house? It's not like PS3's are terribly expensive. Sure if you make an average living wage it'd be a poor idea to buy a few but plenty of peopel could buy 4 or more and hardly feel it. My Aunt and uncle just spent more than that on a new Plasma and they both work at fairly average jobs and have a kid. Oh man... and there sound system. I still don't why people spend so much money on hi-def, the screen picture isn't really that great in my opinion, but hey, it ain't my buisness to tell people how to spend there money. I mean I spend nearly all my leisure money playing with toys primarily designed for children. (video games.) PS3's arn't really as expensive as you think they are though.
