Forums - Nintendo - Wii U may be doomed

Actually, that are good points. We can't argue against facts.

Now I understand everything. Third parties telling us that the hardware is above this generation, even Gabe Newell, are just trolling us. I tell ya! Trolling us! And don't forget about the magical and strange hands for all those who played and feel comfortable the U Tablet. They want us to buy and get aches while playing, and then they laugh at us.

EA is liying, there are no developers or publishers helping Nintendo with their online. I can see now. Thanks for the facts!

Oh, BTW...

It is unfortunate that I don't really remember much about the public reception of the launch of systems before the N64 (wasn't nearly as much speculation back them), but from the systems I do remember the lead-up to their launch the most successful system has always had a significant number of vocal critics who proclaim that the system is doomed long before it launches. I think most people remember the doomsayers of the Wii and Nintendo DS who were certain that they were going to flop; but even the PS2 had many critics who believed that because Sega and Nintendo were doing everying right and the Microsoft was introducing the XBox and the PS2 was going to struggle in a more competitive market. A large portion of the reason so many people predict so poorly is they fail to see or understand certain trends that will dominate that generation of consoles.

One trend that has been (more or less) completely ignored by many people is the movement towards more and more "interactive entertainment" that really began with several games released on the Nintendo DS. It is (in my opinion) very likely that how well suited your system is to teach people to draw, speak another language, or excercise in their living room will be as important to the success of your console as how well suited it is to the latest and greatest videogames.

Or, to put it another way, it is entirely possible that the market could move in one direction because of the Wii U which could easily make it remarkably popular regardless of what the doomsayers say.

Yes exactly.  i think its pretty damn obvious that in the future that the call of duty, and other 3rd party games will NOT be exclusive and be on ALL systems.  So what is it that will sell the systems.  i think we can agree that wii sports and wii fit sold the nintendo wii.

now what will sell the next gen software?

you know whats popular these days?  cooking shows.  now imagine even say a 3rd party making a cooking show game like say "america's next top chef"  or something like that.  You get to play cook on the game and ALSO move towards the kitchen and set the tablet down while still playing in teh kitchen with a recipe and so on.  something like this may sell the system.  Or a less restricted wii fit.  I mean having your wiifit NOT have to use the tv and thus able to work out and watch tv still.  or quickly just step on and do stuff without distrubing tv.  or maybe the catch mii game will be the system seller.

its things like this that we can't predict and won't know until it happens.  IT'S NOT call of duty modern warfare 4 that will make the wii u, nextbox, or ps4 sell a gajillion systems.

Look at the facts. If it is really slighty more powerful that the PS3 and this expensive contoller how can they keep at a competive prise. It has as powerful as the PS3 to be competive and it's still would be rather expensive. This cotroller is not very comfortable and I hope that casual gamers don't turn the Wii in to the succes so we Xbox 720/PS4 with this thing just like Wii brought Move and Kinect :(.Nitendo doesn't have online experience and this day online is a key in most games.Zelda and Mario HD would be cool, but can they save the console if they are at launch. And I don't get developers getting so excited about it.It doesn' matter if you can tweak things from your controller it would discract you from the game.

This is a thorough and well written assessment, sir.

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I thought doomed threads were banned now?

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

Doomed threads are doomed? Sounds like a topic worthy of discussion, perhaps you should create a thread.

If there's anything to be learned from gaming history, it is that power is of little to no consequence on the performance on a console. In fact, the least powerful console has often been the MOST successful.

I'm not too sold on the controller either, but ulimately it'll come down to the games.

the wiiu will sell like n64 or gamecube

Quite impossible. 50 million, bare minimum.

Indeed.  It'll sell, at the very least, like N64 plus Gamecube, not either or.

I think because it is more powerful than PS360, and because it is compatible with Wii stuff the majority of the 90 million Wii users will buy it. Smart move my Nintendo.
