The developer revealed last week that newly formed Avalanche Studios New York is making an "unannounced AAA title" targeted for release on next-gen platforms in 2014, and studio manager David Grijns told Edge:

"We obviously talk to everybody, and everybody talks to us. We have some intelligence to go on that, by early 2014, we're pretty sure there'll be at least one next-generation console on the market.

"Anyone who says they know what the market is going to look like three years from now is just blowing smoke," he added. "Whatever happens, we feel very confident that we'll be ready for it."

Just this week, PlayStation US boss Jack Tretton has said that nothing Nintendo's revealed about Wii U suggests to him Sony needs to introduce new hardware any time soon, while Crytek has denied rumours that it has begun development on games for the next generation Xbox.

Avalanche co-founder Christofer Sundberg also told Edge that the industry doesn't need better looking games, just "better" ones.

"If there is a way to push the bar in a few years then that's fine, but the looks of games these days are so good that they don't need to look better," he said.

"What is more interesting is the ways that developers and publishers can find new ways of designing games - and more interesting gameplay and distribution models - rather than better-looking games."

isnt that what the wiiu does? but 2014 is pretty far away.

2014 was my bet years ago... I said Wii will be out in 2012 and PS3/360 not before 2014.

Holiday 2013 would make sense, maybe sooner for Microsoft...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

If the Wii U takes off like the original Wii expect new consoles from Microsoft and Sony in 2013 maybe sooner...

Microsoft and Sony can't afford giving a 2 year head start to Nintendo. If Wii had been launched in 2005 and X360 in 2006 by this time it had break the 100 million mark of units sold and we can't imagine what damage had been done to the initial X360 sales.

But this is just especulation... it's a way to drive people to not buy the Wii U and wait for the new consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Until Wii U launches we will see much more interviews and articles like that.
