Damnit Nintendo, just unveil the game to the North American market already!!

Around the Network

I don't think E3 is a likely place where we'll see XB announced. If anything, it may just be a stealth release. Either way, this renewal is better than nothing by far.

Europe getting Xenoblade controller and more bad news for North America

Europe has done an amazing job with Xenoblade up to this point. First, they’re localizing the game and putting some effort into the title, which is extremely important. Recently they also let fans vote on the alternative art that would be used for the title’s cover. And it looks like they’re also going to be releasing a special Classic Controller in support of Xenoblade’s launch.

But here’s the bad news for North America. Since Xenoblade wasn’t announced for the territory, it was unlikely that it would show up at E3 even though Nintendo’s European division had some presence at the show. But apparently Nintendo of America said they wouldn’t let the title appear at all since they aren’t interested in displaying products that they won’t sell.

That’s really disappointing… but I’m still hoping for an eventual North American release. Nintendo is going to have to fill the Wii’s final year by releasing at least a few titles, so why not Xenoblade?!

"¡Viva la Ñ!"

alright... I think it's time to open a can of whoop-ass on NoA!

Yesterday I had some free time so I sent them the following email. I recommend anybody who is reading this thread send them one as well. You are free to use any information in my mail, but please don't make it look like you just copied it or they will treat it as spam.
As this was sent before the recent news came out, I was going for a more constructive attitude in my writing (as well as a more long-winded one to drive home the point) , but after seeing this I'm not sure others emailing them should do the same
Let NoA know how disappointed you are in them, let them know they may be losing a customer for every one they gain.

edit: bolded the main points. These are the arguments I think NoA should be hearing. Please add your own if you have better ones.

To nintendo@noa.nintendo.com

I am an owner of a Nintendo Wii system, member of club Nintendo since 2005 as well as a previous owner of a Nintendo DS, and in the past have also enjoyed gaming on the Gamecube and Gameboy.

In the past, however, more often than not I used to find myself taking a passive role as an observer when it came to playing games. All that changed a few years ago when I purchased my first system, the Nintendo DS.
I found the interface intuitive and enjoyed the convenience of gaming on the go, but the thing that most attracted me to the whole experience was the shear diversity of games and different genres I suddenly had at my fingertips.
Variety is the spice of life, as they say.

I soon became exposed to a wide range of options for entertainment on the device, and was able to fine-tune my taste and explore my preferences through the system's large library of games.

When the Wii launched a few years later, I knew I was ready to make a bigger investment in my new-found hobby, and eagerly anticipated the new world of experiences that awaited me.

I have indeed had many satisfying and even memorable experiences with the console, playing such games as Trauma Center, Wii Sports Resort, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Metroid: Other M and more.
I have also had the opportunity to explore games originally released before I became interested in gaming, due to Wii's excellent library of Virtual Console games, not to mention its ability to play Gamecube games, which I use quite often.
Having said that, finding unique experiences on the platform has become increasingly difficult for me, to the point where I actively search online and ask users on forums about games I may have missed.
In doing so, I have become aware of a rather large amount of intriguing and attractive looking games that are different than most of the ones currently available on Wii.
As it turns out, these games have been releasing in other parts of the world for quite a few years, but never made it to America.
This wouldn't have presented an issue for me had I been able to import these games and enjoy them for myself - I have no problem whatsoever in making an effort to find experiences that suit me, and in fact encourage others to do the same - but as I later discovered, this was not an option due to the way the console was designed.

Recently, there has been a pretty long dry-spell of big releases for Wii, which as a customer eager to get the most out of their purchase, begs the question:

(to put it bluntly) - Why has NoA released almost no games whatsoever on Wii since November of 2010, ie. Eight Months ago?

From my inquiries over the Internet I have learned of many titles which I think would do an excellent job filling the gaps in Wii's library, as well as its often large windows between releases.

I realize many of the games listed above may not appeal to NoA for reasons of quality, subject matter, or market compatibility, but I feel there should at least be enough among them to allow Nintendo to provide some manner of support for their own platform.

There are in fact quite a few highly regarded, unique experiences on this list. Some even have an active, growing fan-base in the Americas, despite not having any marketing efforts put behind them in this region.
Others are continuations of series that have been released here previously, and have in fact substantial, knowledgeable followings.
Furthermore it should be noted that there is also a healthy amount of more family-oriented games on this list, which may have a broader appeal.

I find it puzzling that despite the large gaps both in types of releases and in frequency, none of the games listed here (as well as many others not listed) have ever been brought over to America.

As I said earlier, the main reason this is frustrating for me as a consumer, is because I have come to appreciate exploring a large, diverse library of games - both in order to expand my horizons and in order to refine my taste.
To me and to many others, this is a crucial part of the gaming experience, and the entertainment experience in general.

Even the best works of art cannot stand on their own, in a vacuum. And even though many of the above titles could be considered 'niche', a well balanced diet can never consist of just the main course.
Entertainment is after all a highly personal affair, or else we wouldn't have British sitcoms, Alternative comics or Gourmet restaurants. (and the world would be a poorer place for it!)

As recently as E3 several executives in Nintendo have spoken about the problem Wii has had with meaningful third party support, including executives from NoA.

This issue has also been emphasized numerous times recently by the company as part of the barrier for purchasing the console for many so-called 'core' gamers.

Having a more diverse library of games that appeal to a wider range of tastes is obviously a priority for Nintendo as can be seen by the partnerships and plans they have announced for their next console, Wii U.
However, that system will not be available for the next year, and many of the games shown for it may take even longer to release than that.
In the mean-time, many customers like myself who have purchased a Wii have been experiencing difficulties finding new games to play on their systems, let alone good games.

I apologize for going on for so long, please understand that entertainment by nature can be an emotional issue, for better or for worse.

I hope this plea doesn't fall on deaf ears, despite being made to a large corporation.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

- Wii gamer (with nothing to play)
