Forums - Sales - 3rd party Wii games are doing fine!

Well they are not that bad ... but you cant say that a game like Z&W is a success ...

Z&W's low sales is down to the unknown IP, this would have happened on any console. I anticipate steady sales and it will at least hit 500-600k by the time Z&W2 is out.

bearing in mind Z&W hasn't been released in europe yet and I still cant see it ever dropping below 10K per week before the second is released and then I reckon about 8 out of every 10 people that bought the first will buy the second.

There's hope for this series yet

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

I would, it's an extremely niche game that received no advertising. Of course that's because i live in stategy RPG land where pretty much every game even the most popular franchises tend to sell under a half a million. Why would they bother to make a second one if it wasn't successful on some level? It's just like most SRPGs and other niche games. They get hyped up by there niche game fans, who are diehard loyal to that kind of gaming, so peoples expectations get raised too high. Look how some people are talking up Disgaea 3 like it's supposed to sell 2-3 million. It'll be lucky to break 500K.

Another way to look at this is the Wii has 42 Games that have sold above 250,000 units (not including Wii Sports and Wii Play), and 81 games that have sold more than 100,000 units. With the low cost of development, high number of ports and small scale of many exclusive titles it is highly likely that all of the 42 games that sold more than 250,000 turned a healthy profit and the games between 100,000 and 250,000 have (are close to) breaking even.

This is a very good for the Wii because it demonstrates that a large quantity of games have currently (at least) broken even, and as the userbase grows more games will (at least) break even or turn a healthy profit.

While the sales aren't too bad they are nevertheless under performing compared to the third party games of the 360 and ps3. It could be a case of not enough investment by 3rd parties, however if this situation doesn't improve within the next 12 months then it could hurt the wii sales while benefiting the other consoles.

Have you looked at the PS3's equivalent chart? 3rd party games aren't doing that well either. Plus with the BBC report of the costs of PS3 games, they are doing even worse. Now this can turn around, but it's not as good for the PS3 are you are making it out to be.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

'But i just want to make clear that, although Nintendo games sell way better on their system, 3rd parties are definitely making a profit on the system!'.

Lol.

Your list just shows the handfull of titles that have done well. The list of stuff that has tanked is much, much longer.

Yeah, lets wait until Z&W gets released in Europe. I wonder if Capcom are tweaking the game, and preparing *some* form of advertising campaign for it. It sure needs it - I think some TV ads would blow sales through the roof.

I think it will be closer to 500k worldwide sales by end of '08, if not higher. That's not bad for a new, unproven IP on a genre that was pretty much dead.

Zack and Wiki had a TV ad campaign in Japan.

It really blew sales through the roof. 22,250 after 9 weeks.

He's pulling them out of his ass.

'Low cost of development'!!!!!!!

'High number of ports'.  What??

'Small scale of many exclusive titles'.  Yay, like that is a good thing??

Yeah, but it is 'likely' that they all made a healthy profit.

It's also likely that this thread is a joke.
