We all have widely differing opinions of what constitutes a good thread, and we don't want hot topics being filled with two year old threads. Conversely, it would be a LOT of work to track down all threads that are exactly a year old and lock them. So I say our system works. |
Actually, this somewhat relates to an issue I have with the many new forums now in place.
The Off Topic section of VGChartz has always been rather slow. If anybody were to make a thread about, say, a movie, it would be clearly visible on the front page while active. Place every thread about movies in a single sub-forum, and suddenly you have plenty of very old threads populating the front page, which encourages the bumping of old and often very dead threads.
Looking at the politics forum, the oldest thread of the 15 on that board hasn't been posted in since June 6th. By the time the front page of that forum is full (30 total threads), that oldest thread will have probably been dead for over a month. And that's by far the most used of the OT sub-forums.
The site doesn't have near enough traffic to necessitate all these sub-forums.
Also, it would only take a simple script to lock all those threads. :P
