The Lord of the Rings has been announced for Blu-Ray in Europe, and since it's a catalog title it should not be region coded (as the BD spec only requires titles less than a year old to be region coded, for international purposes, i.e. Hairspray from New Line).

From what I can tell, it's the theatrical releases, so I will be passing them up. Not to mention, they'll probably be announced for the US at CES.

I hope the extended editons with all the bonus features come out in the US convetred to 1080p

Haha, I completely agree rocketpig, what a waste putting out movies like Caddyshack and other old comedies/dramas/romance movies, which gain no benefit from the higher resolution. They should stick to action films, and more recent ones at that. High definition doesn't add one bit to the enjoyment of such movies.

Unfortunately, both Speilberg and Lucas want no part of the HD war right now. I doubt we'll see Star Wars in HD for years.

ya I heard about Lucas a while ago but Speilberg is in the blu-ray camp. Just saw close encounters at best buy yesterday.
