So, to summarize, WiiU is up to 4x more powerful than Xbox360 and is equivalent to PS3.

well idk about the that the ps3 isnt 4x stronger than the 360. Also this tech lingo is killing meh lol.

I don't see a problem here.

WiiU = 4x Xbox360

Xbox360 = PS3

WiiU = PS3

There's nothing wrong with the equations.

Can someone simplify this for the less educated people in terms of chips and grafic cards n all that.....please

Could be in power reference?

HD 4890 (chip RV770) = 4x (or more) the power of X360's GPU (chip R500)
HD 4670 (chip RV730) = 2x (or less) the  power of X360's GPU (chip R500)

I think your power estimations are kinda off...

  Fab (nm) Memory (MiB) Core clock (MHz) Memory clock(MHz) Config core Pixel (GP/s) Texture (GT/s) Bandwidth (GB/s) RAM type

XT has 800 Shader cores, 40 Texture units and 16 ROPs

for comparison the 360s GPU has 48 Shaders, 16 Texture units and 8 ROPs

X360 shaders are equivalent to 160-200 unified shaders from RV770.

X360 shaders are VEC5, so in AMD way of naming unified shaders now they are equivalent to 240 unified shaders. Another thing is that the speeds, capabilities, even arrangement (three blocks of 16 VEC5 shaders) are very different of the architecture in the R700 family, but in "marketing" numbers, they are 240 shaders.

Your still stuck in 2006? You REALLY think PS3 is a super monster at graphics? LOL Sure some games look slightly better (and even thats opinionated) but its not vastly more powerful..

360 + PS3 = Wii U

One thing to consider is that this rumour claims that the GPU is "Most Similar" to a R770 and implies that there are customizations and there is still 9 to 12 months left for Nintendo to tweek the hardware further. While I would bet against it being competitive against state of the art GPUs, real world performance of the GPU could have easily increased 50% to 100% over the stock GPU.

TBH as long as it is more powerful in raw terms than the 360 GPU RAM is a bigger factor, the feature most developers point out as a weakness on consoles is a lack of RAM.

While I would prefer Nintendo to use a variant of the chip found in the 58xx series (DX11, better tessellation, more power efficient, etc.) the RV770 is a very capable chip, more than enough to render games at 1080p.

And remember that Nintendo will use a modified chip, so the result chip may combine the basics of the R770 with some of the improvements of the RV800. Plus it will probably be manufactured using 40 nm so the chip will run way more cooler than the RV770s.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

There are no way the Wii U GPU is a HD 4890... that's almost 4x more powerful than GPU equipped in X360.

So, the reason why there is no way it's using a 4890 is because that would make it 4x   more powerful than the 360's GPU? I don't follow that logic.

Anyways, even before the Wii U was revealed rumours were pointing to it using a R770 and IGN said it was something like the 4850. So I am optimistic about this ruomour.

A customized 4850/4890 would be cheap, would not run too hot and with a nicely customized Power 7 CPU plus 1 GB to 1.5 GB RAM would give a very nice leap over PS360.
