Sounds to me like the policeman is victimized for saying something that some people didn't want to hear.

What woman wants to hear that she's responsable for some man raping her?

so , we agree this time then?

but what do they want to hear? what to tell them?

maybe: "dress however you want and walk alone through the street by night, there is a possibility that you may get raped, but don't worry, it will be not your responsibility"

We're talking about "provocative clothing" in general. Obviously no one's telling them to walk on the streets alone at night. You could dress as a nun and still get raped/mugged.

Oh, and is it ever a woman's responsability for being raped? WTF is up with that? It's not as if she's stepping on hot coal and getting her legs burnt. The rapist is the one commiting the rape, he's the one who's responsable.

i completely agree! it can never be the rape victims responsibility to have been raped. no matter how she was dressed or where she went. it's absolutely the culprits responsibility and they are the only ones at fault for the crime.

however you raise a few interesting subjects.

Obviously no one's telling them to walk on the streets alone at night.

and why is that?  because it is common sense? because they should be knowing that anyway? because it is dangerous for anyone?

It's not as if she's stepping on hot coal and getting her legs burnt.

same! common knowledge! do not step on hot coal, or if you have to go in the hot coal area wear the right shoes! is that what you are saying? i don't think anyone would disagree with that.

anyway, my point is it can never be theit fault if they are victims of a rape. but will that knowledge help them if they do get raped? i don't think so.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I find sapphi snake's responses very funny.

Parents tell their children all the time that roaming alone is dangerous for them, they might get kidnapped. So imagine in such a situation if all the kids start roaming alone to f&*king prove a point.

I realize that women are grown human beings and all, but honestly, what the policeman said was hardly saying like rape was a woman's fault or anything like that. Its like saying lock your f&*king doors at night if you don't want thieves to steal your property.

Some activists are really the most dumb people on this planet.

Two sides to this. He's right to a point (as you indicated in the OP), but the way he said it has the wrong connotations

I mean, if i walked around alone in a poor neighborhood bearing a sack with a dollar sign on it, it could very well be said that i was "asking for it," when someone hits me over the head with a bat and takes my money, but rape is a little different in that case, as it's almost a cultural crime (though a crime prevalent across cultures)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

He could have worded it a little better but the whole fuss is pretty dumb to me. They let their thongs get caught in their ass crack. Anyways, as long as a girl can dress slutty then there better be nothing against staring because you can't have it both ways. In Italy a man got arrested for staring too much at a woman on a train. He didn't touch her or anything. He stared. Now if women can dress slutty and guys can't stare that is totally bullshit.  I hardly stare at a woman (except if I see huge boobs popping out, or a nice ass, etc..)  and perhaps he did stare at her too long but she could have gotten up and moved seats or asked him to stop.  That law could be misused easily and would be all on hearsay.  He stared at me for 5 minutes!!!  No, it was only 2 minutes..

as far as the stepping on coals analogy goes, the difference is someone else is committing the crime. if a woman is not wearing coal protective clothing, the coal isnt going to know that and attack her. if a woman is wearing slutty clothes, some people say she was asking for it if a man jumps up and assaults her. thats why there is a huge fuss, people think its ok to commit crimes if people are "asking for it."

going to the getting mugged analogy, just because you have money and are flashing it around does not mean you are asking to be robbed. i think its insane that people could even believe that people are asking for harm to be done to them by the way they act. it is never the victims fault.
