Sounds to me like the policeman is victimized for saying something that some people didn't want to hear.

What woman wants to hear that she's responsable for some man raping her?

so , we agree this time then?

but what do they want to hear? what to tell them?

maybe: "dress however you want and walk alone through the street by night, there is a possibility that you may get raped, but don't worry, it will be not your responsibility"

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I find the whole 'slutwalk march' ridiculous. There are 11 and 12 year old girls walking there and for what?

The police officer could've perhaps used different words, but what he said is in essence correct.

Dunno what this has to do with this forum and internet.

^I mean come on. These 1st world protestors could be doing something actually worthwhile.

So women are to blame because they get raped? What's next? Blaming people who get robbed because they have things of value in their house?

No all that was said is that if they dress in a certain way the chances of being raped increase.

I would call that good advice.

As I said, talking on an expensive phone on the street also is more likely to lead to you getting mugged, yet I never hear anyone tell people to keep avoid talking on their mobile phones in public.

I highly doubt that a cellphone would have any impact on being mugged today being that anyone can get (pretty much) any cellphone between easy to access credit and cellphone contracts ...

With that said, in countries where pick-pockets and muggings are more common it is highly advised for men to not use money clips or other kinds of wallets that show off how much cash they're carying because it does dramatically increase your chances of being robbed.

i didn't know that trying to show less of their boobs, and ass is like wearing a burqa. dam thanks, this info really helps oh well i guess that alot of old women wear burqa, i will go and tell them islam tells you to wear burqa and you aren't muslim so take off the burqa your wearing and show us your boobs. dam thanks sapphi i will tell them sapphi told me. I guess both of us are islamophobes XD.

1. It was an extreme example, but the burqa is a symbol of the repression of women.

2. The burqa has nothing to do with Islam. It's cultural, and the Arabs actually adopted it from Europe (the Byzantines).

3. Why do you want to see old ladies' boobs?

We're talking about "provocative clothing" in general. Obviously no one's telling them to walk on the streets alone at night. You could dress as a nun and still get raped/mugged.

Oh, and is it ever a woman's responsability for being raped? WTF is up with that? It's not as if she's stepping on hot coal and getting her legs burnt. The rapist is the one commiting the rape, he's the one who's responsable.

Its really not ...

Go to the average club and pay attention to what women are wearing, the vast majority of women will be dressed in a way that is not dramatically different that what you would see them wear to school or work, and a small portion of women are dressed in a very provocative way that would stand out in every situation. The difference is that most women go to the club to have a good time with their friends, and the women who dress "slutty" go to the bar specifically to attract a lot of attention from men so that they can drink (and possibly do drugs) without paying for it.

The dressing in a provocative way and getting into this kind of dangerous position are heavily interconnected; and if the women took her personal safety seriously she wouldn't be dressing in that way to get that kind of attention from men simply because of the "perks" that come from it.

The dressing provocatively is not what causes women to wind up in such dangerous situations, so instead of telling them to not "dress like sluts", he should've told them to not talk to strange individuals, avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol when around unknown people, and avoid drugs (which are illegal in the first place). Recomending they take up self defense and carry some sort of protection with them like pepper spray, a pocket knife, an electric zapper thingy (or a gun if it's legal) would've also been appropriate. "Provocative clothing" is also very subjective. I know conservative people who think that women wearing jeans is "indecent" and "provocative".

Also, women are punished by society for not repressing their sexuality. The fact that the world "slut" is only applied to them, and that there's practically no such thing as "slutty clothing" for a man proves this. Sluts get too much of a bad rep.

If women are finding themselves in trouble because they're seeking unusually high levels of attention from guys simply for the perks don't you think that the method they use to gain that unusally high level of attention is part of the problem? After all, the more modestly dressed women tend not to get into similar trouble even though they drink to excess and talk to strangers ...

How can a man dress to gain unusually high levels of sexual interest from women? Couldn't it be that there is no "slutty clothing" for men because men can not achieve the same kinds of results by changing how they dress?

Yes, but I never disagreed with the fact that there's a problem with the attitude of getting attention. They're essnetially acting like prostitutes, only providing a lot less. This however is the fault of society, which teaches women to use themselves as objects, as a trade comodity to get what they want from men, rather than to obtain what they want through their own effort. Men have their own fault, as they were the ones who used women as comodities in the first place, and many of them treat women as objects they own even today.
