the officer was talking to a very specific group of women and he was talking about keeping them safer from all kinds of sexual assault not specifically rape. so even to bring in studies saying that women dont have to worry because children are more likely to be raped is just absurd.

The studies clearly showed the type of women who are typically targeted by abusers, and it was shy, passive women who wear "modest" clothing. You can spin this all you want, fact is the officer was wrong.

there is no need for any spin at all in my position.  if there is a party with these students at it and people have been drinking...the girl practically naked is definitely more likely to be groped than the girl who is not.

Since when is "dressing like a slut" mean "naked"? And you know damn well that the cop was talking about rape, and studies show that rapists don't pursue women who dress like "sluts", they pursue women who dress like "nuns" (which ireally makes sense, as a predator will pursue someone weak and unlikely to retaliate, versus someone more confident and more likely to "cause trouble").

where did i say i am not humane. i said i will pretend to be very humane, if i wasn't humane i would say i would pretend to be humane. do no wrong guys think they live on another planet with another race expecting nothing wrong to happen and complain about the most stupid thing blaming society as they have nothing better to do than complain about the stupidest and tinniest thing that occurs and if me thinking that do no wrong type of guys are dreamers and complainers makes Plain evil then i have no problem with that.

Yes, rape, misogynism, definately not huge issues, and you can't blame those on society, it's those damn women's fault no? Quite frankly you seem to be living in quite a dreamland, where reality has little value. Keep drinking the traditional conservative cool aid!

where did i say or even hint that at what you are accusing me of meaning. i need you here mr bubbles to translate what i said so he understands since i am not the best person in expressing my opinoin using words. Pleeeeeease mr bubbles come and translate it for him

i dont see how i can be of any help...frankly, i dont know if sapphi really understands the things i say either sometimes or if hes just pulling my leg or something lol.

I just wanted to mention that all this fuss is over victim-blaming, right? But there is no victim here. The guy was specifically told to give out safety advises. Why ask for advise if you think there is no safety against rape? Furthermore I can't understand the scale of this protest over a person's opinion. They protested over 4 countries from what I can gather over this puny incident that might not have even been an ill-intention.

Also he said victimized, there really was no mention of rape. So there's a good chance he was right. And a good chance he was wrong.

I think activists throughout the world will just protest over the samllest problems in the world.

edit: wrong thread

i "know" nothing of the sort...

his language was horribly wrong and he was advised beforehand not to say what he said.   but wanting these women to be aware of their surroundings, the situations they get into and to prepare themselves to prevent such things and to deal with them if things get out of hand is perfectly fine.   just because these women arent responsible for being assualted, doesnt mean that they couldnt have taken actions to protect themselves.  choice of clothing was only one aspect of the officers discussion with the students and only talked about now because of his language.

Bubbles, did you read that study linked by REpublic that says that the officer's advice was just plain bad, and quite the contrary does not help women prevent sexual assault? I don't know about the groping part (you've failed to provide a link to a study that shows women wearing "slutty" clothing is more likely to be groped), but following his advice would actually make women more likely to get raped, and in my view rape>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>groping.

There's a typical profile of rape victims, and contrary to conventional wisdom, "slutty" close doesn't fit in it. What the officer said was motivated by misogynism.

Rape rarely has to do with how a victim is dressed, because most rape is NOT primarily sexually related.

Rapists are generally people who are power asserting control freaks who either like to force people because they know they can. (See famous celebrities like Kobe Bryant or (most likely) Strauss Khan.) or people who in general feel like they have now power in their own lives either in their professional and personal lives, or even more directly sometimes in getting a date.

I'd say as a police officer it was sad he didn't know this, but honestly, police officers don't usually seem to be trained in the finer points of criminology.

i which women think like sapphi, if they did we would have alot of naked women walking on beaches and streets which would be pretty awesome

Turns out the police officer was wrong, and links to scientific studies have been provided showing that women who dress like "sluts" are less likely to get raped, believe it or not.

Also, if women thought like me the only action you'd be seeing would be with your hand(s).

Most do anyway.  Some evloutionary biologicsts say differently... though none of it is ever based on numbers.  Just on... "Evolutionary biology is real, therefore rape is some weird biologcal anomly from back when we were animals and there was no consent and male animals just took their mates."

... ah evolutionary biology... so stupid.

There is one real outlier in the studies though.  Prostitutes.  Obviously not many are dressed conservativly, and they are often raped, largely because they know there is little they can do.  First they'd have to explain why they were where they were, and many have been picked up before, so cops might just assume it was a john who later refused to pay.

Well, that and it's not unheard of... and actually way more common then it should be, for a vice cop to bust a prostitute, then threaten to turn her in... unless...

Yeah.

Wait... so those scenes you see in cartoons with cavemen smacking cavewomen on the head with clubs and then dragging them by the hair to the cave actually happened? Anyways, while rape does happen in the wild, I don't think that's how the majority of copulations go down. It's generally the women going with the most capable suitor, no?

(BTW, to what part of my post was this a reply to?)

Yet again another reason why prostitution should be legalized. (I also doubt their clothes were a significant factor though)

yea the last comment was way off base.

a rapist won't rape you because of how you dress and if thats the case then why do old women in nursing homes get raped?

the victim sometimes may send the wrong signal to someone shes on a date with. but does that mean she should be victimized?

if a rapist wants you then the only thing's that will stop him is him or the potential victims ability to take him out.

in other words the cop gave/gives bad advice.
