Forums - Microsoft - Halo Anniversary adding up to fail?

I have been doing the math, and this game is not adding up. I will be honest I would gladly pay for a remastered version of the original game. Better graphics is all good. Hell I don't even need that if I can play this on the 360. However that doesn't seem to be the case. From what I am reading it appears that at least a solid quarter of the original game is missing. Perhaps even an entire half of the game is missing. Where the hell is the original multiplayer, and why the hell aren't we getting the multiplayer from both versions of the original game.

The anniversary edition is touting seven multiplayer maps. Here is where the math comes into play. The original had thirteen maps, and six additional exclusive maps on the computer. The latter being the really good maps that a lot of us have been praying for. Worse yet this is a shadow of what was offered in Reach that had eight multiplayer maps, eight firefight maps, and a map editor. Hell one of those seven they are touting is a firefight map. Which was obviously not present in the original anyway.

It is seeming like we aren't going to get the original maps, and if we do they are going to be the retread remakes. Which frankly I am fed up with having to rebuy with each new offing in the franchise. Since they just remake the same maps over and over. Perhaps the greatest sin is that six multiplayer maps is just simply to little to support varied team structure. You need a good number of maps on both ends for the play to have lasting appeal. I want to point something else out, and that is the the Halo Reach Beta supported four maps. So this is effectively just a little better then that.

I am seriously disillusioned, and it goes so far as to shake my faith in the franchise. I could give less then a damn about a single player with upgraded visuals if the part of the game that gave me hundreds of hours of enjoyment has been neutered off. I really wanted those nineteen maps. I think most everyone here would want those maps. Six maps just isn't acceptable for a old game they are just polishing. We are most certainly entitled at a bare minimum to everything that was made available in the original game. At best this is coming across as a bait and switch, and at worst a full fledged lie.

Its not a full priced game its only $40

They are using the 7 most popular maps from CE since adding all of them wouldn't really be worth it as many maps simply wouldn't get played.

The entire original campaign is there, ZERO of it is missing and updated in HD Graphics Glory.

I got 3 pre-order of the game within the first hour of it being up.

In other words, in no way is this going to be "fail"

You will get the additional maps.

If you pay for them.

Sadly this is what this gen has become.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Yeap. In fact I am pretty sure MS will charge $15 for more maps down the road making this close to a $60 title as possible once all the DLC is involved,

I would honestly not be bothering by any of this if they just made the original multiplayer an option, either via reach by disabiling all armor abilities and tweaking the settings/stats of weapons, or by having a stand alone multiplayer experience. But it seems they want to do neither because in Reach "classic" gameplay still has Reach's weapon propertys and you can still sprint.

As far as a map/forge feature it would be very nice but that would take some effort to do. I just hope they throw in the replay/theater feature into the mix.

It's just that simple.

@BenVTrigger

I cannot believe you are actually defending what they are doing. They aren't intending to sell a remastered version. When you remaster something you don't typically edit out huge chunks. You add to, enhance, or provide additional content. You do not cut half of the original out, and try to sell the other half for two thirds of retail. Euphoria nailed what is going on. You are probably going to end up paying full retail or more to get everything that should be in the package on day one. People are going to get ripped off on this purchase.

Speaking to sales I was only referring to this game being a failure on the pure value level, but if it is a failure on the sales side I couldn't be happier. Hopefully people will come to their senses about the fact that they are paying forty bucks for half a game. A game which you can buy for the console already, and have been able to buy for over three years. For less then twenty bucks. We should be having the definitive version offered up. Instead it is a bastardized retread.

being able to play with other people over XBL multiplayer makes it worth it.

"with great power, comes great responsibility."

I own Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo Reach and I've yet to take any of them online. It's no big deal to me (not even sure if I'm gonna buy this game, to be honest.). But reading the O.P., I'd say it's a damn shame.

The online community for Halo will be split between five games, I think (can ODST players play with H3 players? ) and then (possibly) charging extra for content that was available for free, before? Not a good look, M$. Maybe they'll toss in The Forge.

I couldn't remember how many maps were in the original Xbox game, but I was expected some reamkes in addition to graphical ovehauls, and Sidewinder and Chill Out to be replaced with Reach-enhanced version of Avalanche and Cold Storage from Halo 3.
Still, this is likely to be the first Halo game I pass on. Was in GAME earlier and 2 guys wwere saying theyd get it if it wasnt £30-40. Was tempted to point out to them that this is Microsoft theyre talking about and it obviously going to launch at £40.

Sorry but, unfortunaly this is almost impossible. Its not that simple, it won't fell as "good" as the original. Just look at the classic mode in Reach.

All my Live friends are prone to buy Halo Anniversary, so, I doubt it will be a failure.

Arent the maps for Halo Reach Multiplayer... you can play the 7 seperatly or add them to Halo Reach..
