People seem to think this a going to be an extra cost... when in all probability it will simply be an extension of Xbox live, i.e. if you have an xbox and an xbox live account it will spread over to the PC platform with all the features that xbox live has over GFWL meaning everything will be in one place such as your games list, film list andmusic list. i imagine being a mix of GFWL and Windows Media Centre.
Obviously being a PC you can access most, if not all, of those extra features on their own however that wont be as convenient as a self contained UI... heck it might turn out like steam but with added music and film stores.

I also wonder if it will run iside the windows will it make it even easier to port console games to the pc? what if you could play the same disc in both? I know may not be tha case, but would be ideal. You have a standard console(360 or next xbox) that devs could code for, and a pc running the same os with variable specs (pc) to get extra horsepower/ visuals at added end user work (keeping driver updated and compatible). Maybe my heads is in the clouds this moring though. Not mention this would run across all mobile device with windows 8 right? |
It wouldn't make porting any easier than it already is and would not bring over any XBLA games that the developers/publishers don't want to port. And the same game running on PC and next box wouldn't happen unless the next xbox is running a windows kernel and a x86 architecture both of which aren't going to happen and even if it did the number of developers willing to port their games to PC ensure they run on a verity of hardware and add keyboard and mouse controls and then include it on the disc for "free" would be very few and far between.

But that's the point not all PC gamers have xbox live gold so it would be an extra fee for services that are currently free on PC. And a "conviniant and self contained UI" which loks you into a select few services and providers doesn't sound apealing to me, I would rather pick the best and cheapest movie and music providers and not have to pay an extra fee on top.
