Apparently cause we know they ain't playing games.
Well there are a lot of similarities between the handheld and console gaming wars:
The PSP was supposed to kick the DS to the curb.
The PS3 was supposed to kick the Wii to the curb.
The PSP is a more powerful machine than the DS.
The PS3 is a more powerful machine than the Wii.
The PSP is more than a gaming machine. The DS focused on changing how games are played.
The PS3 is more than a gaming machine. The Wii focused on changing how games are played.
And I think it's that last comparison that has really done Sony in this time. Their machines are a "Jack of all Trades, and Master of None." The average user doesn't care about being able to play a DVD from their PS3 on their PSP at a wireless hot spot. In the handheld space most users want to be able to quickly turn on the machine, play for a few minutes, and then being able to quickly put the machine away. The PSP is a pretty machine, but it doesn't have the battery life and isn't rugged enough to go everywhere. As for the PS3, Sony was a bit behind on their schedule and got forced into the console race early by MS. The machine is just finally showing some life at the end of this year, but the negative public perception of it is already firmly in place.
When push came to shove, Nintendo threw everything they had into the DS and Wii... and they continue to deliver experiences not available on other systems. They've come from 'behind' to really shine in both areas at unprecedented levels. How long that will continue is anyone's guess, but I don't see it ending in this generation for either the handheld or console systems.
Does this all mean that the PS3 is destined to follow in the PSP's footsteps? No, not at all. But Sony's really going to have to pull some rabbits out of their hats if they want to avoid that fate.
Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

How is adding an analog stick not changing the way wii play with handhelds?
How is being inside a game(ps eye) and motion controls(six axis) not chaning the way we play either?
The ps3 wont follow the psp's foots steps, its IMPOSSIBLE to hack, and wii has been hacked. There is a much hihger chance wii will follow the psp's foot steps. Remember all of 2005 psp was sold out, so was wii, and the year later sales dropped, and because of hacks software dwindled.
Its more of, is wii following the psp's foot steps not is ps3.

Never say IMPOSSIBLE to hackers; the get MAD...
Also PSP was selling great (as it's still selling well) it wasn't THE FASTEST SELLING CONSOLE/PORTABLE OF ALL TIME!!!
My themeforest portfolio:
True, the PSP is the greatest selling, non-Nintendo, hand held, of all time. That alone, and the fact that it out sold many consoles, deserves my respect. Its gaming library still needs an upgrade, but other than that, I like it.

I tend to agree, but I would add that Sony isn't trying to just have a successful console. My guess is that board meetings at Sony may have gone like this when the PS3 functionality was being decided:
Head of Games Div: We really need to punch a hole in the Microsoft's next console. Let make this a killer game machine.
Head of Movie Div: We really need to punch a hole in the HD-DVD camp and send Toshiba in hiding. Let's make this a killer Blu-ray machine.
Head of Games Div: But that will make it really expensive for a gaming console!
Head of Movie Div: So what, who cares about your toys... movies make more money.
Sony CEO: Let's do both.
LOL!

come on, it's obvious that Wii's success is it's gameplay!!!
please, don't say "Ps3 has gameplay", is has the gamplay of Ps1!!!
also, Wii has not only mini-game titles, it also has hard-core games like "Metroid Prime3: Corruption" and "The Legend of Zelda", it also has the "PES 2008", "No More Heroes", "Resident Evil".......i don't think these games are for children ......
WII is for EVERYONE
i have both wii and ps3, i'm not a hard-core gamer as you may call it, but i prefer Wii, although they are both are awesome, Wii is more Fun to play, Ps3 is like Ps2 with better graphics, which is NOT enough to cause people to waste their money to get one!!!
