If it's not mandatory then this is not a big problem.

What I don't get is the need of Kinect to use the voice commands. Can't a headset do that?

If they would simply allow the headsets everyone already has to be used for voice commands, nobody would buy a 150$ microphone.

Isn't it quite ironic that voice control has become Kinect's most appreciated feature? The price for the required hardware is almost zero, pretty much every 360 owner already has it, voice control has been possible for years, yet it was hardly ever implemented.

2 things:

1 - Who wants to wear a headset the entire time they're playing a game or have to take it on and off?

2 - The voice recognition software is running on the Kinect hardware and doesn't need to be programmed into every game to make it work

I didn't know that the software was running on Kinect, that explains it.

As for who wants to wear a headset... who want to shout to his TV? Or do you thing that Kinect will be able to understand what you say when speaking normally? Even in the videos (not on stage with the noise) people were talking loudly.

Kinect can understand you at a normal speaking volume even with loud music playing.

Watch the first video under "Noise Tests".

Thanks for the videos. And yes, it works quite well (even if it doesn't beat the vacuum cleaner)

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

An amazing feature that cannot be achieved with PSeye. It does not need to be highlighted that much.

That's probably the way to go if they want people to buy Kinect. I wouldn't make a AAA exclusive Kinect game because it's only selling to 10 million users instead of 50 million users. But make a game that has Kinect support and it's selling to 50 million users and some of those users may think Kinect support offers something that makes the peripheral worth buying. As long as it's optional and there are absolutely NO KINECT ONLY ACHIEVEMENTS, I'm cool with it.

One quick question: Why the hell can't I use Kinect on my Xbox Live vision enabled games? I have Uno for Xbox 360 and I have to wear a headset and use the Live vision camera (which is in a different room than my Kinect) when I play online instead of just logging in and letting Kinect take care of both problems, automatically? That's bullshit! I can't even take a profile picture with Kinect. I have to use the Live Vision Camera. It's not like Kinect can't do it. What gives, M$?

As long as they aren't mandatory I could care less.

I don't believe most of the people on this site would care about games like "somethingsomething Adventures" over core games like Halo so we might as well not count them. The most important game for us core gamers that MS focuses on the most will be Halo 4 and I seriously don't see them screwing up the game even if they use Kinect to some degree with the game because 343 should know better than that.

http://uk.kotaku.com/5810138/mass-effect-3s-new-voice-commands-are-xbox-360+only-and-heres-why

"Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson says BioWare is bringing voice commands to Kinect and Xbox 360 because Microsoft's sound and motion-sensing controller is doing the hard work of voice recognition. Kinect's internal hardware is what makes it possible—or at least much easier to get voice commands working—not just its microphones."

People need to start giving Kinect some credit. It has one of the most advanced voice recognition systems available. It is alot easier for developers to leverage the Kinect's hardware and software as opposed to going thru the trouble of writing their own voice recognition code.

Surely you mean Epic?

Besides what if the Kinect feature was voice commands like in Mass Effect 3 or maybe a hand of god style map maker?
