Seems clear Carmack would lay that at the door of PS3 being so hard (for id) to get the same quality of performance means getting simultaneous release on both consoles required too much development time. Had it been PC/360 exclusive it would have been out sooner. Unfortunately given the great looking and solid performing PS3 games that do exist and have taken much less development time it's actually the fault of the middleware in not being good for PS3 development.

If the game is good, and has those visuals, and takes a while to finish, and gets decent reviews (80s), it will sell fine.

I don't think I've seen a game with good, appealing gameplay and lots of content flop. Games like Vanquish, Enslaves, Castlevania, likely flopped because they were too short on content. And then you have the graphics which are top-notch, espescially for an open-world game.

It'll do fine if it deserves to. I see it doing a little better than Borderlands, but you may consider that a flop...

How can this be a flop?

I predict Rage will have at least 1 million copies opening in FW

The funny thing is Resistance 3 is nearly a flop thanks to Dead island and Gears 3

I don't think it's going to do as well as some people think people are just getting bored of FPS.

It will not flop. It has over 300k preorders X360/PS3 combined and Metacritic is at 80, which is good. Practically every reviewer (insane or not) lauds RAGE for having one of the most engaging FPS experiences this generation, for the tight game mechanichs (like the races), and for having absolutely gorgeous enviroments. Some claim the id tech 5 engine to be the a new landmark for video games, or something in the same vein. Go out and get it: you won't regret it!

Nah. It'll do fine. It has enough interest and coverage and whether you think it's a repeat or not the setting is popular this gen and with vehicles/combat it'll appeal well enough to sell well.

Will it be an enduring hit and put id back on the map? That I'm not so sure of. But it'll sell well enough to be a success I'm sure.

Just remember to install it no matter what console you have. This puppy doesn't like streaming textures from the disk.
