Stranger's Wrath isn't anywhere near to being an indie game. It's a port of a AAA Xbox game.

This isn't directed just at you since you're not the only person I've seen say it, but where did this mindset come from that retail release = AAA game?

No there is no such mindset. That indie clay game (can't remember the title) is getting a retail release, but nobody is gonna call it AAA. Most Vita retail games probably aren't AAA games (Unit 13, the golf and fishing games, etc.). When I say AAA I mean certain quality, size, graphical fidelity and general scope that in most cases requires money, time and workforce from the developer. And those games are usually still released in retail, the main exception here would be Japanese games in the West. Look at the list of games that I gave instead of clinging to a boring and far-fetched "retail doesn't mean AAA" argument.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Goodness me, calm down.

All I mean is, "AAA" is a construct mostly of this generation of games that have massive development budgets and massive advertising budgets that require a large amount of copies sold to break even.  Stranger's Wrath is neither of those things.  It's a moderately-budgeted game from a previous generation.  Duke Nukem 3D is a moderatedly budgeted game from a previous generation which is getting remade for Vita.  Would you consider that an "AAA Sega Saturn title"?

Regardless, if you want some actual AAA games like you listed (such as Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age) then your best bet is send money to Sony.  Just send them some money directly and include a note that says "here's some money to moneyhat Bethseda/EA/Rockstar" because there's no chance of these games coming across on their own at the moment.

I'm calm

I really can't understand how you can put ports of old games that used to be top-of-the-line games with biggest budgets for their time and indies in the same bucket. These are two totally different things for me. Is Jak & Daxter Collection an indie game for you?

I know that would be my best bet, but I'm just gonna stick to the second best one - buying big games, thus doing my best to support devs making big games for Vita. That's why I plan to buy Batman next week and Spiderman... whenever I find a copy I'm not gonna be wasting this money on smaller games, cause that would impact my purchases of bigger games. My budget isn't unlimited and there are other things than just games to spend my money on I have to choose something and I choose to support big AAA games, cause I want more of them, not more of 5-10 times overpriced indies.

Simple solution just buy games you think is fun.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

That's my point that you seem to be missing.  There's a middle ground between a title being "AAA" and being "indie".  Jak isn't AAA nor is it indie.  It's somewhere in between.

It's a shame you feel that way about indies.  I can understand where you're coming from but personally, I think western third parties are terrible at making handheld titles.  Although there's good stuff mixed in there like Rayman & Need for Speed, the majority of it is more like rubbish ports of Spider Man; lifeless entries like Batman and filled-with-issues games like Assassin's Creed.  Personally, I don't find such titles much fun and would rather not support them unless they have a bit more effort put into them.

(Japanese third parties seem to be the only bigger publishers who understand what makes a handheld game good at put the time and effort needed into them).

Anyway, point being, indie games are hit and miss but the ones that hit get things really right, and I'm not going to ignore them just because they don't have enough of a budget for my liking.  I'd rather have fun playing a cheaply made game than have a rubbish time playing something with more money invested.

But, I don't think I'm going to change your mind about this, so I'll leave it there.

Well... I wouldn't take Oddworld stranger as a Indie but nor as a AAA... even if when released on XBOX was a top-tech/budget game now is not.. with time the tech and advances the game showed when released became old stuff...

So like Kresnik said Would You ba able to pay FULL PRICE for a "AAA" or highbudget game from another age? I wouldn't, I nearly pay full price for very few games, neither would I for a oudated game on graphics and mechanics.

But stil is not a indie game, a lot of people was involved in it's development and production not just a few of friends, but it is a LOW BUDGET port... actually on vita was ported with ONLY ONE person.. ONLY ONE Did all the work...

Personally to me, an indie game is a game made by a hobby coder without publisher/marketing support etc. However the term now seems to basically include anything no made by a major label with a large budget.

Just Add Water are a small independent developer and so the game gets considered "indie" in that regard.  But really, it's more of a "B" game. The letter denouncing the size of the development, rather than the quality of the product.

I think there is a lot of blurring of quality and size/budget going on as to what an AAA game is.

However, Sony consider Strangers Wrath an indie game, hence it's in the Indie section of the PlayStation Store. They also put Worms in the indie section of the store. So there really is an evolving definition of "indie". However it really just means "independant" and so any developer without shareholders or owned by a major label with shareholders is actually in the business of making "indie" games.

But either way, all I want on my Vita is games I enjoy. I completely see Scisca's point of view. I think I'm just accepting the reality that until there are more Vita owners out there, we have to make the best of what we have got. I'm not sure it's actually a good idea to openly condone the development of substandard home console ports from major publishers in favour of high quality titles from smaller companies who are more likely to go "hey we broke even on that game, lets make ANOTHER Vita game" rather than as we have had so far from Activision (COD), EA (multiple) and Ubi Soft (Assassin's Creed) where an AAA game has done modestly well, made a profit and they've just been like meh, that wasn't worth it.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I agree whole heartedly.

What I would like tho is some more games (as you said) of the middle tier caliber. The Vita equivalent to Luigi´s Mansion 2, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team ,FE:A and the likes.

I honestly don´t want this AAA-cinematic whatever-rubbish on the Vita.

I don´t care if they are made by Valve themselves (Portal Vita would be amazing) or by indie studio XYZ, just a bit more of the Gravity Rush/Tearaway-esque stuff.

...as in a bit "bigger" than  Mutant Mudds (which I really enjoyed on the 3DS)

Not that I´m complaining, mind you. Just as constructive criticism.
