No there is no such mindset. That indie clay game (can't remember the title) is getting a retail release, but nobody is gonna call it AAA. Most Vita retail games probably aren't AAA games (Unit 13, the golf and fishing games, etc.). When I say AAA I mean certain quality, size, graphical fidelity and general scope that in most cases requires money, time and workforce from the developer. And those games are usually still released in retail, the main exception here would be Japanese games in the West. Look at the list of games that I gave instead of clinging to a boring and far-fetched "retail doesn't mean AAA" argument.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
