The trailer is good but the Dragons Dogma gameplay videos at E3 have been a bit disappointing and seemed too traditional. Very directed Japanese style while I was hoping for a less directed trend set by Demon's Souls.

IIRC it's single-player, and maybe I haven't been following the news lately but I'm actually under the impression that it won't even have proper multiplayer. |
I searched and found that it won't have an online mode :D you use your main character, recruit a second one... and there are 2 more characters you can recruit. If you're online, you can pick 2 characters other people created (not the main one though). If you're offline, you can recruit NPCs instead.
All other 3 characters will be controlled by AI. You only control the main character and give orders to the others.
I'm actually happy it has no online :P Now I just have to see what the PS3 version is like... I hope it doesn't have freezing problems like Lost Planet 2 on PS3 in which you couldn't move for a few seconds :S.
Knowing MT Framework, Xbox 360 version should have better framerate and probably better anti-aliasing but screen tearing and PS3 version should have no screen tearing but worse framerate and probably worse anti-aliasing. Wonder if they improved the engine from last time...

What do you mean by "too traditional?". Isn't the gameplay in those videos at E3 like the one shown in this trailer?
This looks too different to normal RPGs to me.
I was actualy hoping it would be more "Japanese"... at least in art style :P

By traditional I mostly mean lots of use of scripts even during action gameplay. Game taking over camera control. Not enough random enconters and freedom, instead the game decides when and what the player will face. Comments during battle seemed cheesy. And the combat was a bit clumsier than it seemed in the trailer.
I liked very much what they're doing with the open fields though, semi open world gameplay, and I have my eyes on this game.

Hmm, I see... I didn't know the game decided when and what you'll face... I think I read somewhere that you could go out and fight random monsters if you liked and only stuff like boss encounters where scripted. The comments during battle didn't seem cheesy to me but that's probably because I'm not a native english speaker... I've heard many people say X game has bad voice acting and asking stuff like "do the Japanese really think that's how we speak?" when I couldn't really tell what was wrong with the acting and sounded just fine to me.
I also have my eyes on this game... but it's so far away from release :S
It doesn't look good to me, it's a bit generic. I'll just have to wait till the game is release before I can judge it.
So far this is looking to be a must buy game for me
I think I just came. Capcom is making Monster Hunter into an action mmorpg for the western appeal. That's why there is that bland look to it.
No multiplayer???!?!?!? I'm soooooo disappointed that words fail me
