Just improve the graphics, that should be enough to please them :P
Yeah, I kinda see it as the same scenario as last time.
Wii was somewhat superior to PS2/Xbox and now Wii U is somewhat superior to PS3/360 (apparently).
Wii had a new control scheme and Wii U has a new control scheme.
Both are named practically the same, making it seem like Nintendo will continue with the same strategy. Wii is not a name that the core gamer loves either, so bad decision IMO.
The only difference being that the Wii U will release earlier this time, so it's as if the Wii had released earlier in order to get PS2/Xbox ports. I don't know if that's a strategy that's gonna get the core gamer.
Also, who's gonna get a Wii U to play core games ported from PS3/360 that doesn't already own a PS3 or 360?
Who knows, maybe Nintendo know what they're doing, but to me it doesn't make much sense. It seems like a half assed attempt to regain core gamers. It's like they said "let's do SOMETHING to at least give the impression that it will be a good console for the core gamer," while their main target is the same market the Wii had.

Isn't the new controller great for the core gamer? I think this is a better revolution for the hardcore than the casual. Even back on Sega Genesis when playing against my brother on General Chaos, I always had to quickly switch to my strategy and click through so he couldn't see it and it didn't even work most of the time. We've needed this one for ages.
Now they are saying they have a good online experience, they have HD graphics (possibly better than the PS3) so what the hecks the problem. And they will get more than just ports from other consoles a year later... Those are just the newest games they were willing to announce.

The wii was released a year later than 360, by the time it came out it was already outdated tech. Its not the same as Wii U at all

Why is everybody making this assumption? From what I'm reading and have seen, developers believe the Wii U is/will be SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than the PS360. All speculated specifications seem to lead to this being true as well. Just because many games that haven't even come out yet are going to be ported to the Wii U from current generation consoles doesn't mean that reflects on the system's performance.

Who in their right mind would choose Singalong Mass Effect 3 or Mass Effect 3-3D when they could have better graphics with customisable hotkeys whilst playing on the couch or even in bed. |
Honestly, I thought those voice commands looked awesome. In combat, they made the action really smooth, and I imagine it would give even more immersion. I'm pretty excited about it.

One thing that has occured to me, is that this controller is even easier to rip off than the wiimote was.
MS and Sony could both have thier version ready to add onto thier current gen console by the time U launches if they started work today, which we all know they have.
The differenced in graphics between U and PS360 is going to be even more insignificant that the difference between them and Wii, so a competeing add on could throw a wrench into the launch fairly easily.
Seems at least likely given the history of MS/Sony R&D.
