Forums - Politics Discussion - Portugal goes right sided

http://english.aljazeera.net/news/europe/2011/06/201165204223313518.html

The PSD captured 38.6 per cent of Sunday's vote against 28 per cent for the Socialists, the interior ministry said after only the results of votes cast abroad were left to count.

The result leaves the PSD short of a majority but party leader Pedro Passos Coelho said he would immediately seek to form a coalition government with the conservative CDS-PP party which won 11.7 per cent of the vote.

Looks like failure of socialistic EU model that lead us to the brink of a crisis is making people eyes open and hopefully more countries will go right side.

I voted PSD!
Actually, to make it clear, PSD equals Social Democracy Party, in english.

I`m portuguese, by the way.

Are they actually right wing, or just another crappy "centre-right" party which is now equivalent to most countries' left-wing parties?

It's very probable that Spain is the next one to go to the right side. I'm glad for the Portuguese people, if you need to be fiscally responsible, it's better to have a government that believes in the policies you have to implement. I've never seen a socialist party that it's fiscally responsible.

But if I am right it is more what we call liberal.

Kind of sad that someone like berlusconi is like 'Portugal/Spain/ireland just need someone like me'

Yeah and that makes no sense,  youth protest against the politics today but if right wins it will be even get worse for the youth in Spain but unemployed numbers are improving though (finally).

So I know what you are on about, what is this socialistic EU model of which you mention? And I presume the 'brink of crisis' is the recent financial crisis?

Hmm, pie.

I think it's a game of percentages. Usually, the lefties are more prone to protest than the righties, so a rather small number of extreme left guys can make a lot of noise, but the most recent pools in Spain tell you that the weaker age group for the lefties is the 18-30 year old guys, which are the guys who suffer this crisis the most. The left policies have failed misserabilly in Spain, as in Portugal and other countries of the south of Europe, and the people are starting to see it.

Spending much more than you can.

By eurosocialism I understand the current push for Brussels to dictate as many things as possible that were previously left to countries, also keeping the blind eye on creativie accounting of euro member countries, and all the insane regulations on food categories/local products that come from Brussels as well as food market protectionism.
Plus the insane politicall correctness :
