Until there are no homeless or starving people here in America, I refuse to help anyone else.

What makes American lives more important may I ask?

And what makes non-American lives more important? We're all humans here, and point is its easier to help American's in need, and with the added bonus of getting to see the results first hand almost every day.

The point I'm trying to make is that if you have enough money to live off of, your better off then a huge hunk of the world. Now its easy to just ignore the rest of the world and only think of yourself, but despite what some people say you can make a difference. Maybe you can't save the world but you could save a handful of people's lives.

I spent alittle over 2,700$ on my trip and I gave out at least a hundred bags of rice with my team, we gave out about a half dozen other meals to the slum children and played with them. We actually improved their lives and another team arrived a few days before we left to keep up the aid and keep the rice coming and help the people.

So the question is whats stopping you Christian or not from helping people in your country or around the world?

People have jobs, so they can't go on missions.  It would be good if people can offer more financially.  As for myself, I am barely able to keep my car on the road and I have to nickle and dime everything, because I live off handouts and do not see any indication soon of things being different.  Things are so lame on the part of the government to try to help, I am in a limbo state on the job front.  And on that note, a bunch of other people are barely living paycheck to paycheck.

So, for now, due to this state, I have resolved to do the starving artist route, cranking out boardgame designs, and not caring about much else besides a gaming community I am trying to build.  Would of considered a more spiritual route, but it seems like churches really either don't care or know what to do.

Your thinking American Conservatives are representatives of Conservatives around the globe. It even recently came up in the Canadian election rumours started that Prime Minister Harper would cut many health care programs. However he quickly denied it as it upset the majority of his supporters. Now whether their was any truth to the rumour I don't know. But the Conservative Party was very quick to deny it had any intentions on cutting Health Care.

Infac the Liberal Party of Canada cut way more social programs then the Conservatives have ever. I know because I was in foster care and on financial support for awhile. It wasn't the Conservatives threatening to cut the programs I was in it was the Liberals.

I'm pretty sure Conservatives in Europe are likely also different then Conservatives in the United States. To link Conservative to religion is also pretty bad as I know many non-religious Conservatives. In Canada we have three main parties the Liberals (Center) NDP (Extreme Left) and Conservatives (Middle to Right).

Fact is you can't assume just because the American Republican Party supports certain measures that all Conservatives do. Just look at Australia their Conservatives have done all kinds of shit that Canada's Conservatives wouldn't do and not even America's.

Also you do realize that many of the hospital's were created with the help of religious groups. Catholics were very instrumental in the building of many hospitals here and abroad. Also while the Catholic school system is horrible it was also the main education system until the Government stepped in at least here.

Religious people are the ones who started many of the social programs we see today not the other way around!

Conservatives in the West generally oppose anything that may be seen as "Socialism", and social programs fit in this category.

Your right socialism (Communism pretty much) is totally against Conservatives in North America and probably globally. But define socialism the US Republicans claimed that Canadian Medicare is Socialism. However Canadian Conservatives were quick to say it wasn't. Conservatives in Canada do one thing really good, they conserve.

Socialism is in the eye of the beholder. The US Republican Party had members in favour of the Government bail outs. That was considered socialism by many other conservative groups.

I think its hard to stereotype all Conservatives. Just like many people assume all Conservatives are Christian's. Having been a member of the Canadian Conservative Party I have met Sikh's , buddhists, muslim's and agnostics all of whom are Conservatives.

Now as for Liberal's being richer, lol the Conservative Government's do more for big buisness then Liberals ever have. All those wealthy oil billionaires all the million dollar film stars Conservatives helped them get rich. At least if your talking Canada, Conservatives dump millions to billions into the oil industry, lumber industry , film industry , game industry. You name it the Conservative Party helped make them rich.

I don't think their is any excuse for someone non-Conservative or non-religious not to either serve on a humanitarian team or donate to a charity.

I live on less then 12k a year. I live hand to mouth and very modest in a peice of shit appartment. Yet I found a way to go on a humanitarian mission. Now granted I got fired a little while ago so I didn't have to take off work. But even I with such little income and in the position I am in, still was able to contribute by going on a trip. I also donate 10% of my little income. So I don't see all that much of an excuse for anyone. I make about 700$ a month before rent and bills. Yet I could go on a trip, its all about your priorities.

Now I understand its very difficult for some to say , you know what I barely make anything but I will donate 10%. Its also very hard for someone who makes very little to say, you know what I will save a chunk of money each cheque to go on a humanitarian mission. Some of my family members were upset with me for spending my money to go on a humanitarian mission, they said I should have saved for a vacation or a car or something for myself.

Fact is anyone and everyone can do something to help someone in need, it doesn't matter how poor you are. At least not in North America or most of Europe. If you make more then a dollar a day, then your better off then like half the world. Everyone can help somehow!

Any social program is an act of socialism. As for the liberals being ricgher than conservatives thing... well, a lot of uneducated religious people are conservatives, and these people tend to be poorer. However, lots of big business owners are conservatives, and this is a very well known fact. You're totally right about the bolded part. Big businesses are a conservative environment, and even Hollywood, which many label as "liberal" is actually quite conservative.

It's the same study that says liberals make more and are more educated then Republicans.

The Libretarian facet is just generally ignored.

Something you may find surprising based on these boards as well... Libretarians are second only behind Liberals when it comes to atheists.  This includes moderates.  There are actually quite a few atheist Libretarians.

I doubt you actually read the actual study.  Instead you likely read a new article about it.

Fine, I'll see if the actual study is available somewhere, and I'll read it just to spite you.

Haha, go for it.  Just to warn you though... you'll likely find 50+ conflicting studies before you find the right one.

It's a problem in general... partly because Democrats don't know which cart to back.

Afterall, if Democrats make more then republicans... then the republicans aren't the greedy rich guys are they?

In a way the democratic argument becomes "we need more government intervention because of greedy democrats."

Which becomes a problem, since the same people crafting said legislation are democrats... and rather rich ones at that.  Congressmen get a pretty nice deal.

In trying to be all things good to everybody, you usually end up with a lot of contradictions.

Heck, look at the Tea Party... despite in general how people try to paint them... they actually end up also in the "better educated" "make more money" camp according to most polls.
