Forums - Sony - NGP's backwards compatibility unveiled

WTF?  Okay I'm pretty sure I'm dreaming now.  PSP games on PS3 AND NGP!  I already got my beloved Peace Walker.  If Birth by Sleep and both Dissidia games are remastered.....no words will describe my happiness.  SONY PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN!

OMFG Sony needs to

A big part of backwards compatibility is the ability to play the library that YOU ALREADY OWN on the updated system.

This isn't backwards compatibility. It's the ability to download old games.

Pretty sure this was annouced along side NGP earliar this year -- as for people upset it dosn't include UMD's, remember NGP dosn't have a UMD slot, it uses flash memory for games.

...which are also playable on the previous system, so it still is backwards compatibility.

That's not bad, but considering the store lacks too much games, it's not much to be happy about.

Well, I bought my best psp games on UMD, and only the mediocre ones on PSN, so I agree.

as a counter point - i never bought a psp so having access to all of those games is something of a compelling argument for buying an NGP.  i don't want a ton of psp games but i really really really want VC2 and 3.

Definitely a good point. And as already mentioned in this thread, many developers will likely put their games on PSN after NGP is released.

Gah...This is really disheartening to hear I really wanted it to have UMD BC so i could buy them cheap from shops and not limited from the store, well this is pushing me towards just a PSP instead of a Vita.

Former something....

The VC isn't considered backwards compatibility.

The VC isn't considered backwards compatibility.

You can't play VC versions on the original consoles, but you can play the PSN versions on the PSP and NGP, therefore

I feel the same way. I never owned a PSP, so getting improved versions of the PSP games along with all the awesome looking NGP games is making the NGP very attractive indeed!
