Forums - Nintendo - Just a Scenario... (N3DS related)

Picture this: you're in charge of the next big firmware update after the eShop firmware update. After the last big update, you feel you have a tough act to follow. What features do you add? What features do you change? How will you alter the layout of the menu screen? All valid questions, and any answer is valid. Here's what I would do: I'd include a search feature in the main menu, so you could locate all the eShop games you bought by typing in a word or two that is in the title, or even its genre. Or better yet, include a catalog feature that organizes your eShop games by genre to reduce time spent rifling through your apps to get to the games you wish to play. I'd also unlock the QR scanner so you could scan QR codes that are not of Miis. And that would be all I can think of... So, have any of you got some good ideas? I'd like to hear them, along with critique of both my ideas and everybody else's, but keep it constructive. No griefing, people!

That's assuming all that won't be in the initial firmware update next week anyway.

As for what I'd add...I'll wait until I see what the new firmware adds first, then make suggestions.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Are details of the shop already released? I must have missed that.

Some type of eShop Wishlist would be nice. Whenever a new product is launched you are shown the information first hand when you visit the shop, with the option to buy it later via the Wishlist.

Maybe add a section for upcoming games.

Selected spot-pass promotions filtered by genre preference

edit: fixed a weird sounding sentence ...

I'd put in a video player that lets you play your own avi/mpg/h.264/whatever video files off the SD card.

And I'd remove the 3000 pic limit in the photo channel.

I was kind of hoping for that feature on launch. I even looked online for ways to do this to no avail.

So it looks like that feature will be there when Nintendo wants it there. With any luck, that will be when they launch the 3D video shop or whatever service they're working on to get 3D video to consumers.

But I seriously doubt the 3000 photo limit will ever be an issue for me. The day I have 3000 photos worth keeping on the 3DS with its low quality photos is the day I buy a dedicated 3D camera.

As for the shop, as long as they make it similar to the Wii VC/Wiiware shop, I have no complaints.

The customizable menu system itself works just fine as is.

I agree about that, but I'd love to put all my personal photos on the 3DS to show around. Right now I have over 13000 photos on my PC, but I usually don't carry that around, so it would be nice if I could put them on my 3DS (which I take with me most of the time) with a nice folder structure.
