if it still runs smoothly, has great games and looks good, this is a good move.

i'm not going to lie, i don't know shit about hardware stats..

..but cutting the internal memory sounds fair enough, let the consumer decide how much memory they want with an external memory card.  probably needs at least a bit of internal memory though to promote developers to use dlc or something.

...cutting the RAM in half though sounds like it could have a pretty large negative effect on what kinds of games can be made.  it's not like 256MB is even that big by today's standards.

I would gladly pay top dollar for the NGP if they keep it as the way the introduced it, performance trumps price in my book.

The 3DS apparently has 128mb of ram, I guess the graphical difference won't be as big as DS vs PSP this gen? Anyways I can see a lot of fans being upset about this but it's for the best right?

Wonder if it has anything to do with their budget being fudged up by the PSN attack.

Humm...Less RAM means:

-No Multi-task(or very limited) during a game.

-More difficult or quality loss to port PS3 games(they use more VRAM)

-Longer loading times? I think that the device use flash cards for games, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Hope that this don't downgrade the console too much...Developers surely will strive to make the most of the RAM. I've heard that 5MB can make a enormous difference in a game.

I don't remember Sony ever saying the amount Ram the NGP comes with. This is a rumor about a rumor.

Smart move by SONY, I wanted them to do this, keep it competitive.

The removal of internal storage doesn't sound too great though. I didn't mind using Memory Stick Pro Duo's to save downloaded stuff onto my PSP, but the problem is that card stayed in there all the time.

If we have to remove the external storage so we can play a game and capacity of the cards are small (under 8GB) then that will be a huge downside to the NGP, It adds hassle and confusion.

EDIT:

Forgot to add, the guy above me is right, this is speculation upon speculation. Let's just hope SONY hit the nail on the head at E3 and make a fun, state of the art console with a strong line-up of launch games. I wouldn't mind a re-design either, I would prefer a smaller PSP GO style NGP rather than a big black brick.

Noo. I think the exclusion of the internal storage is a good decision because it will keep the price down and the cards are cheap anyway. However, the rest is bad news. I hope cpu and gpu will stay the same.

Why downgrade it just upgrade it darn.

It is a good decision, as long as it doesn't use Sony's expensive memory system. If it is SD cards, I won't complain.

hmmm, cutting the ram/vram in half is going to hurt a lot. i hope Sony can cut something else.... maybe shrink the screen size a bit?
