Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: Full Stereoscopic 3D Hitting Xbox 360

i dont understand.  what is the difference between this and the 3d that the 360 already does?

The 3D that 360 does is over under or side to side, versus "frame packing".

over under/side by side = both images are in the single frame which is split down the middle. Its a form of horizontal or vertical interlacing. The display takes the left image and inserts black lines after each line to make it fill the whole screen, then it takes the right image and does the same thing.

frame packing = taking an original resolution left and right image and putting them on top of each other in a frame buffer of 1280x1440 (720p). The TV takes this giant frame and shows the first 1280x720 image first and the second image after.

Results wise, they should be pretty much equal however the current 3D method 360 is using is superior to frame packing at sub 720p per eye resolutions because there is no scaling involved. in side to side, each pixel rendered is a pixel shown with no resizing or scaling... Frame packing on Ps3 involves an initial images of god knows what resolution to be jammed in to 1280x1440 and then scaled up to show 720p per eye to the user.

3D is the most useless feature that has come to gaming since the Tony Hawk skateboard controller

I am with you i have a 3D tv and sucks, i have played every game capable on my ps3 to run in 3D but i hate it... I cant just like it i found it so gimmicky xD and after 10 minutes i need to turn it off

I DONT NEED 3D on my ps3 and neither do I on my xbox360....

It'd be really funny if Microsoft upgrades the Xbox 360 to NES 6 specifications...

Seriously it'd make sense as some sort of half way revision so that when they release their Xbox next in 2014 they still have reasonably up to date hardware to sell...

Tease.

LOL, disolitude put an end to the bullshit REAL quick. Yeah, I was thinking of getting a 3dtv next year but now, maybe not.

@ disolitude, any word of when they'll "allow for true 120hz input and put some faster HDMI chips in to these TV's"?

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

Im so sick of this 3d shit, Its bad enough some movies require 3'd viewing but paying more for this stupid feature is worst..... I PASS!!

Not for a while. No point from the manufacturers standpoint.

Broadcast 3D is 1080p/2 per eye

Console 3D gaming is sub 720p

Bluray 3D is supported at 1080p since its 24hz

PC 3D gaming is very niche and there is no point for Samsung Sony and rest to put more expensive components in to the TVs since they won't be universaly supported for another 4-5 years. PS4 and xbox 720 maybe.

Only devices which allow 120 hz input are 3D monitos which have to use dual link DVI ports for 120hz. Such as this - http://3dvision-blog.com/tag/27-inch-3d-monitor/

That one is neat as it has both HDMI 1.4 and dual link for 120hz true 1080p 3D.

I have faith in Naughty Dog as well, Uncharted 3 WILL BE the most impressive 3d game ever released on console undoubtedly.

But my patience lately with Ethmaz is wearing thin.  I apologize for jumping the gun and starting an argument but I'm so sick of every single thread I go into seeing him just non stop talk about Sony and its excusives.  This is a thread about 360 3D and what's the first thing he brings up?  Uncharted.  Every single thread he talks about PS3 undertracked, PS3 exlusives being the greatest things since sliced bread, PS3 this and that, even when the thread has nothing to do with that.

Again I apologize to everyone and I shouldn't have started an argument and gotten off topic.  Either way more 3D support on 360 is great news for those who enjoy 3D, now hopefully the actual 3DTV costs will go down;

Oh, right, bit of a misunderstanding there.

Nice to see you have faith in Naughty Dog.

And I don't really know people on this website, so I can understand your comments if you are running out of patience with Ethmaz.

Anyway, on topic, I still don't see what the difference is between the Stereoscopic 3D used in Black Ops / Crysis 2 and the Stereoscopic 3D being touted in that article, something about putting the 3D image onto a 720p framebuffer or something along the lines of that?

EDIT: It's OK, I understand what it does now.
