Forums - Nintendo - Cafe is going to be awesome - The Official Thread

While I agree there's too much negativity, I'm also not ready to rejoice.

We'll have to wait and see what Cafe really is and is all about at E3.

I totally 'got' what Nintendo was doing with Wii and was one of the first to predict it'd be a huge success (when everyone else thought it'd drive Nintendo out of business).

I don't understand 3DS and so far I don't 'get' Cafe either.   Not to say they'll flop, but I don't see the appeal.

I get they want to include 3rd parties and can't support systems by themselves.  But 3rd parties are pretty much all trapped in a mindset of bigger, badder, better sequelitis, and rarely, if ever, truly innovate, resulting in losses more often than profits.   To me this is kind of like tying your boat to a sinking ship.

I think Nintendo would be better off buying some 3rd parties (like say Capcom) to expand their production and IPs but otherwise staying the course set with DS / Wii.

Still, we havn't gotten the full picture or vision of what's Nintendo's up to.  So I look forward to it and expect to be pleasantly surprised.

I believe Cafe will sell 70 million lifetime (mainly thanks to the 1.5 year head start compared to Xbox 3) and PS4 80 million and Xbox3 will sell 85 million lifetime.

I think we should just patiently wait until we find out whether or not the Café rumors have some truth to them, (Which I doubt, because Nintendo isn't pants-on-head-retarded) before we start making predictions.

There are still too much unknowns at this point to safely talk about Cafe and it`s success - or not.
There´s no price point, no strategy (business and online wise) and no games.

Still, i believe that Cafe will successful. Nintendo has a strong presence amongst non-gamers/casual gamers and it has games like Mario Kart, Wii Sports and New Super Mario Bros, that strongly resonate with that market. Although that market is far from won, Nintendo knows how the market thinks and might reach success that way.

The biggest IF seems to be: can Nintendo reach the core market? If Nintendo can bring the same kind of games (minus the exclusives) that MS and Sony bring to their consoles, then, Nintendo has a great chance. But as i said before, that`s actually the biggest IF.

My greatest expectation actually relies on the remote itself and my vision of how it will be and what it will permit. I don`t really care that much for visuals or online, but that`s just me.

Fixed. You don't need to thank me for improving your post.

lol

I think my perdictions are well based and accurate.

On every forum I am everyone is happy about Cafè and hyped for what could happen at E3. And everyone is enjoing its 3DS too, many are waiting for some games or for a redesign. Only on VGC the number of negative thread is so big, I think this as more to do with the sales, but anyway why shouldn't someone be excited about a new console and new games, especially when the previous console (Wii) is pratically dead for new great releases, even by Nintendo?

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

We'll have to wait and see... in about 2.5 weeks we'll know all. Well, a lot more than we know now, anyway.

But I agree that there should be a lot more positivity about, enough with all the doom and gloom already!

100% true

I agree, I can't see why people are projecting their own fears onto what this console might be and then getting pissed off, as if those fears were true and Nintendo was personally insulting them?

As for "Cafe", I think in this context it is the commonly used term derived from cafeteria, a place that serves coffee, kind of like a cross between a coffee shop and a bistro. A play on "cafe society" which describes an informal meeting place for all kinds of people. I don't know about North America, but it is a commonly used term here in Europe and, I believe, in Japan.

Apple, probably weren't planning any big moves into gaming with their devices, it just so happened to work out that the set up they had fostered casual gaming on their phones and pads. I see no reason why they should now take a risk on moving into more serious gaming.

I'm sure the Cafe, whatever it turns out to be, will garner a loyal and sizeable following. Nintendo aren't fools and everything I have heard about this new machine, which might, I admit, be nonsense, seems to point to a sensible approach at capturing a broad section of the gaming public, Social, casual, family, AAA, hardcore, puzzlers, whatever. I bet they have a tag line something like "everybody plays" or some such inclusive phrasing.

Doom and gloom would say: Nintendo made a bad move to go after the core market because those are Sony's and Microsofts.

The positive view on this says: Nintendo succeeded at making the Wii a success, they can pull off the new direction with Cafe.

The neutral view will say: Let's wait and see.

Which position is the least honest? Total lol at the core belonging to MS, which is just 2 gens old. Even lol at it belonging to Sony, just 3 gens old. Nintendo owned the whole market about 5 gens ago with the NES. It is totally able to do that again. It's also able to fail. But it's not bound to either, so honestly claims the neutral view.

lol? do you think young teenagers who like COD etc nowadays will even look at the next nintendo console?

nintendo has an image nowadays of 'casual' 'motion controls' 'nintendogs' etc.  there's an audience for all that shit, but the core don't want it, and so the core don't go near nintendo at the minute

there's no way that nintendo can both keep their casual market, and then change their image enough to capture the core market.  you can quote me on that.  for goodness sake nintendo doesn't even have a substantial online service yet.

Just be possitive about this people

also take into account that although unlikely, there's a chance some new competitor could enter for the next round (apple etc)

that would change everything, although as i say very unlikely at this point

Apple doesn't have any in-house developers, and they wouldn't get any Nintendo/Sony/MS - developed games. So it would be a console with barely any exclusives, if any.

As for Cafe, as HappySqurriel said we don't know much about it yet. Rumors are a bit strange and not very encouraging in some areas, but they're rumors so...

Well, do we really know who Apple has been negotiating with behind the scenes? Wasn't there reports a while back that Apple had employed some of the men behind the Xbox? And with the brand image they have, it would take a really bad product from them not to sell. If there was an Apple console that was aesthetically pleasing, with all the games most people care about (COD, Fifa, etc) with just a few exclusives, I think it would be a force.

Ideally they will enter and subsequently Sony and MS would join together for gaming, although that is almost impossible.

I don't personally believe Apple will come this round, but I do believe its a case of 'when' and not 'if.'

The problem Apple will face if they launch a home console is the price of games. Their customers are used to buy games for cheap and third partys won't do anything on their platform if they can't sell their games for 60/70 dollars.
