Forums - Nintendo - Cafe is going to be awesome - The Official Thread

As a wise man once said, "Cafe doom threads are getting lame". We may never find the man who said that, but the least that we can do is follow his advice and make the Nintendo Discussion board a less depressing place. I ask you all to calm your minds, release the feelings of hate and fear that are chaining you down, and embrace the brilliance that is known to us as "Nintendo Cafe".

We all know that if Nintendo follows the path of the Gamecube, they'll fail to attract the mainstream gamers that made the Wii such an outstanding success. If they follow the path of the Wii, they may find themselves in a position where the "core" refuse to buy their product, and the mainstream do not wish to rebuy another games console.

However, I feel that Nintendo is going to do neither of these things. They are going to go down a route that I have called the "Cafe path". By doing this, they secure many 3rd party developers, who have realised that it is no longer economically viable to ignore one of the "big three" when developing their games. This will hopefully secure the "core" gamers. However, they will show us something brilliant that we couldn't predict beforehand that will make the Cafe seem very different to the Wii, and it will be this moment of innovation that allows Nintendo to gain continued support of the mainstream gamers.

As you can see, the Cafe will be a console where both "core" and mainstream gamers can game together in harmony. The Cafe will have one of the largest and most diverse game libraries of any console in history, and will be recognised as the console to truely bring gaming to the next generation.

I don't think the claims "Project Cafe is doomed" or "Project Cafe is awsome" are really justified at this point in time ...

In Canada, we call it coffee.

I believe Cafe will sell 70 million lifetime (mainly thanks to the 1.5 year head start compared to Xbox 3) and PS4 80 million and Xbox3 will sell 85 million lifetime.

i just can't see it

why should i spend money on this system when fantastic games are being pumped out on my PS3 still, and i can hold off for a few more years and get a new xbox/playstation with much better specs for the price?

in the minds of most gamers nowadays, the word nintendo means 'mario' 'motion controls' 'gimmick' and 'casual.' the more hardcore market is firmly held by sony and ms - nintendo would be better delivering for their own fans in my opinion. if they try to hard to capture the hardcore, they will likely fail and could alienate their loyal support

also take into account that although unlikely, there's a chance some new competitor could enter for the next round (apple etc)

that would change everything, although as i say very unlikely at this point

Apple doesn't have any in-house developers, and they wouldn't get any Nintendo/Sony/MS - developed games. So it would be a console with barely any exclusives, if any.

As for Cafe, as HappySqurriel said we don't know much about it yet. Rumors are a bit strange and not very encouraging in some areas, but they're rumors so...

We'll have to wait and see... in about 2.5 weeks we'll know all. Well, a lot more than we know now, anyway.

But I agree that there should be a lot more positivity about, enough with all the doom and gloom already!

we can't really say anything about Cafe now, because we don't know anything about it except for rumors. But hopefully, it's as good as we expect it to be.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Well, do we really know who Apple has been negotiating with behind the scenes? Wasn't there reports a while back that Apple had employed some of the men behind the Xbox? And with the brand image they have, it would take a really bad product from them not to sell. If there was an Apple console that was aesthetically pleasing, with all the games most people care about (COD, Fifa, etc) with just a few exclusives, I think it would be a force.

Ideally they will enter and subsequently Sony and MS would join together for gaming, although that is almost impossible.

I don't personally believe Apple will come this round, but I do believe its a case of 'when' and not 'if.'
