Forums - Nintendo - Majoras Mask to win the greatest LoZ game tournament at IGN

And well deserved.

Geez that is a tough question.  Picking the greatest Zelda games out of nothing but amazing titles.  I'm going with Ocarina of Time, but Majora's Mask was simply amazing as well.  Although, I think OoT should win as it is my favorite game ever, if MM wins, I don't think there is anyone that can say it doesn't deserve such praise.

There are two types of gamer in the world.

Those who know that Ocarina of Time is the best game ever made, and those who are wrong...

Exactly haha.  A very wise many you are.

Majora's Mask is absolutely a fantastic game and well-worth the attention, but it's quite true that Ocarina of Time is the pinnacle of gaming. The problem with Majora's Mask that is the very reason that Ocarina beats it is that far too much of the game is concentrated on side questing.

It has incredible, FANTASTIC side quests, but more than half of the game consists of them (and not in a "lolz, we're going to make you waste a shit ton of time doing the stupidest things possible to keep you playing our game" way, like so many PS360 titles with their achievements and trophies). Ocarina kept the focus on giving you more and more and more and more along the lines of a main quest.

If Nintendo could somehow merge the two together...

I thought Phantom Hourglass was fantastic. Spirit Tracks, I never got that far into. It wasn't that it was bad, it's just that it lost my attention because it was nothing special.

WTF their are people here who liked Wind Waker?

Boat sailing, less dungeons, Studio Ghibili wannabe wind waker?  Thats it hand in your zelda fanclub cards, your done.

You like MadWorld, so you better just shut up.

Its true, Windwaker is less than on offer than Ocarina of time, came out on much powerful hardware and it gave less.  It has no reasons to excuse to deliver on less because of its artstyle either (cell shading takes less time to render being its all flat textures.)

So Nintendo cheap out on the graphics and still give you less gameplay and easier combat, filled in with lots of long tedious sailing and tingles trificore piece quest.  Why does this game deserve any recongition as a good zelda?  Its not.  Its Nintendo at its laziest.

ripppppppppppoffffffff.

Well, the original on the NES is still my favorite, but it lost in the tourney long ago.  ALttP is a very close second and OoT and MM are very, very close after that.

I've voted every round so far but I don't know if I'll even vote between these two.  It's like trying to pick one of your children over the other...

lol :D

Personally I'm a huge fan of Link's Awakening. Best Zelda ever.

Ocarina of Time easily. Not even a debate. I think those choosing Majora's Mask are mostly people just wanting to rebel against the establishment and probably weren't here when Ocarina of Time was released. Ocarina of Time was a groundbreaking masterpiece, the most impactful build-up and release of a videogame in history. As a Zelda title, Ocarina of Time is the definitive game  of the series. Majora's Mask was merely just a side-quest to that... Although I would consider Majora's Mask as the #2 Zelda game. I liked almost every Zelda game though; Twilight Princess I didn't care for, and Zelda 1 I loved as a kid, but can't even play now.
