Which games use these new discs? I haven't touched my Xbox 360 in a couple months. I should probably check to see if my Xbox 360 has this problem. I have a fat but it's a Falcon-chipset 360 manufactured in Fall 2008. So it probably doesn't have this problem.

RROD wasn't planned. To the contrary, MS is going into this update with the anticipation of some consoles not working properly. In this case they have to be prepared to cover people beforehand.


I would say its realted because they learned from the RROD experience that they need to better test out their equiptment to find its flaws and than to make things right for the end user through just compensation. Gives me hope the next xbox will not have those issues.

RROD was a problem that really blew up over time. People were using the console for years with no problem. MS made good by extending warranties three years for hardware failures.

To the contrary, this update is going to make some consoles not work properly after the installation. Hence, this problem didn't take much testing to figure out.

MS has compensated people in the past for unexpected failures. This time they anticipate failures and have set up a plan that actually makes a lot of people want a hardware failure.

I have 3 one old reconditioned original, a middle cycle Arcade and a 360S. I am guessing by the wording of the 360S offer that this is likely to only affect my older versions.

Not seen any messages myself though but it would be sweet to replace the older unit as this is used in my bedroom as my sky extender and the whine is a bit annoying when the sleep button has killed the TV. I have become adept at switching my 360 off blind though using the controller.

So, does anyone know which kind of 360-consoles are affected by this? I just bought another 360 (20gb falcon from 2008) for 40€. Would be sweet to get a 250gb slim in exchange for that. :P

From what I've found on internet, most likely console affected this would be a 2009 falcon(wtf?) with lite-on drive... crap. :(
