I'll admit that I don't know a lot about the game other than that it's an adventure sexy game.

But, Japan, already have massive games like that, including riskier that of Hentai and Tentacles.

It's the kind of game that you can buy for its sexiness but you can lie and say that you bought it because it's a good game.  Sorta like how everyone watched "Driving Miss Daisy" for the sexy interracial stuff but pretended to like it for the acting.

It's got a good cast, fun and quick story and charming to quirky endings. Most of the adrenaline really is on the puzzle part, and the plot sort of just keeps you going (the puzzles can get really hard and frustrating at times, though I played before the easier mode patch).

It doesn't really mix into the massive bishoujo adventure games, those are visual novels stuff. They are probably also a lot more varied in that aspect even if only for the higher number of girls to go after. Catherine has just two (plus even a happy alone ending, which I really liked, and maybe those aren't the norm in the dating sims), and it really isn't difficult telling what will get you where. The error and trial in Catherine is 100% on the puzzles.

The hype is probably just niche, maybe marginally someone else, because it's enough of an unusual game.

edit: It's a sexy game but by far there's nothing much explicit in it.

I played it, I dunno I thought it was just weird and not that fun really. I don't understand the hype either.

If you like puzzle games, I guess try it out.

I’m hyped for it because it's a puzzle rpg and there aren't enough of those in north America. Also we hardly get any good jrpgs in north America so having one come here that has had great reviews is exciting.
Plus having a Horror Action Adventure game with that kinda art seems kinda sweet and interesting to see.

Catherine isn't a hentai game in any way. it really isn't even close. It deals with relationships, morality, the pressures of adult life, etc.
