Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: 'Plenty more surprises' coming for Wii

That's what deluded people have been saying since 2008. Wait for E3, then when nothing comes at E3, they say "wait for E3 next year before attacking Nintendo!!11!". I mean, time to stop using that excuse. Next thing you know people will be saying wait for E3 2012 and let's see if Nintendo dropped the ball on the Wii or not (They clearly did already)

Expect things have always came at E3 so what are you talking about?

Yeah, it really worries me when he there's there's plenty of surprises for Wii in 2012.  Not an encouraging sign.

Wii is really starting to feel like the GC at the end of it's life.   Noooo games except for an ever delayed Zelda:TP as all focus went to the Wii.   When the Wii came out, lo and behold a lot of GC games (DK:BB, FE:RD, BW2, MSC, SPM, etc.) that were held off for Wii's launch.

At any rate, if they just give us the Japanese goodness (TLS, Xeno, PTower, Kirby) I'll be happy.

Surprises in 2012 doesn't mean they have absolutely nothing for 2011. That'd be stupid.

Things like waiting for DQX announcement for instance, 2008 when the game got announced, we heard, wait till E3. Nothing happened, then when people questioned it we heard again, waith until E3 2010!, then nothing happened, then we are now hearing wait for E3 2011, and nothing will happen. It's obvious that if you predict the same thing until infinity it will probably happen. The same was said with Pikmin 3, Zelda (until it finally happened) and still plenty of games like F-Zero, Starfox, etc. People always tell us to wait until E3 for things that will not happen obviously. Nintendo had no fucking games for the year, but instead of critizicing them, people praise them and lecture us telling that we should wait until E3. That's always a valid excuse it seems.

Nintendo: Why are there no games on the first half??? "Wait until E3". Why should I wait until E3? And then if I wait and those things that were going to appear at E3 do not do, like for instance all the unlocalized Japanese games, I'm sure people will still say "wait until next year's E3 before jumping the gun", it's a useless neverending cycle, that's why it needs to stop.

Stuff like DQ X is wishful thinking. But just because it's not F-Zero or Starfox or Pikimin 3 or whatever they're announcing (not that they can't ever be announced) doesn't mean that E3 is useless for announcements. That's stupid when they've announced plenty of games for the Wii at E3 - Metroid, Zelda, NSMB, DKC, etc.

Yes, but that's not my point, my point is that people tell you that you should wait until E3 before saying X or Y isn't happening, when evidence supports the contrary. And having to wait 1 entire year to find out that thing is not happening is really useless. Do not wait until E3, it means nothing at all. I know E3 is where Nintendo tries to announce their games for the most part, but it's getting ridiculous, no games for the first half of the year, then a few decent games and Nintendo is already redeemed. Wii's long gone, let's just move on and hope that they get their act together with Cafe. And stop hoping for mega announcements for the Wii, they aren't gonna happen, now less likely than ever when we know that their internal teams aren't working on Wii games anymore, only just 2 of them are making Wii games now, in contrast to 10 or more at the beginning of Wii's life. Still, some are hard to convince, I guess we will have to wait until E3 to see the truth, and then wait again until E3 2012 because it won't be enough evidence. Wii's history now, it's made history too, let's just be glad and move on please?

Aside from the same team, no. But it's just as good apparantly, and undoubtedly the best JRPG on consoles this gen. Not that there's much competition...

I really do hate comments like this for Xenoblade and sometimes TLS because it really margianilizes the games already out and makes assumptions about the quality of Xenoblade without any first person experience.  I know you haven't played the game and I'm doubtful you've played it's big competitors for the title of best JRPG on console like Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia, Valkyria Chronicles, and Demon's Souls.  With that in mind it's just rediculous for you to call something "undoubtedly the best JRPG on consoles this gen".  I have my doubts.

If I'm honest, I meant on the Wii platform only. And in that case, Xenoblade and The Last Story are in a league of their own. Sure, there's Dawn Of The New World, but there's very few TRUE JRPG's, let alone exclusives.

Aside from that, you're correct. I haven't played the game, and I haveb't played every single Wii JRPG there is. But judging from reader reviews, Famitsu, feedback and videos, it certainly looks to be the experience we wanted on the Wii for all these years.

I'll make sure to be clearer next time

trestres is a little jadded imo but he's essentially correct.  Nintendo has released nothing (except a mediocore S-E Mario Sports title) for the whole first half of the year.   We know Cafe is coming and logic dictates that Nintendo will move all major resources to Cafe - especially because it'll require much longer development time than Wii games

Gamecube was barren for games for it's last 18mths or so.  When Wii launched Nintendo had a ton of games that were basically GC games they'd held back to support the Wii's launch year.   I expect they are doing the same now.

Nintendo was always intented to be a five year system.   It's going a little beyond that but not much.  Nintendo's focus is now 3DS and Cafe.

The fact that NoE is talking about 2012 surprises when we're only in the first third of '11 and have the all important holiday season to consider IS very worrying.   Why isn't he saying 'Wait for E3?', no he's saying 'wait for 2012'.

I'm sure something will be announced for Wii at E3 for 2011.   But all the big guns will be held back for Cafe at this point.  Zelda brought Wii in and will see Wii out but I don't expect to see another major 'hit' release for Wii except maybe Wii Relax if it's ready and if it's got mass appeal.

However, I'll be quite happy with Kirby and the other Japanese titles we all know about coming to NA at this point.

My righteous indignation was totally wasted, oh well, I'll continue to look forward to the game with you then.

It's not your fault, I wasn't being clear enough, and at any rate, you still made a damn good point

Also, the sooner this game is out, the better. Then I suppose we'll be able to see just how it holds up to JRPG's on other consoles, and just how accurate that initial statement would be anyway...

I reckon September.

Dragon Quest? I'm as jaded as you about how gaming companies are treating the Wii (including Nintendo), but Dragon Quest is NOT proof of that. I mean, it's not like VII and VIII were early in their system's lives.

I agree, but people use that pretext to hide the Wii's poor lineup and deceive themselves into thinking it will all be better. I'm a pessimist, but I think I'm right this time.

Wait. I missed the context of the comment I quoted. If it was others waiting for DQX announcements, my comment is to those instead.

As for E3, Nintendo will either be fools, or have one or two big games other than Zelda to keep the system going and keep their revenue up. Unfortunately, that's 50/50, as Nintendo has been foolish recently (acting like they need to give into the third parties).

He said there are more surprises in 2012 in regards to the Wii. But it's ridiculous to think 2012 is the big year for it when it comes to surprises when Cafe is releasing that same year and they have to have some things for 2011.

Also he didn't say "wait for E3" because he works for the UK and E3 is a NA event. Also remember EU usually gets their games later than NA.

Nintendo might not be as sure about the next console as they claim, so they might have to push the Wii in case the next system doesn't take off. Perhaps the 3DS sales and the lost Wii momentum shook them up.

Not claiming that's certain, but it would be a reason to push the system even with a new one coming.
