A slimer slim for $200? Yes please.
well that would certainly steal some wii 2 hype at e3, pretty diabolical if true

Production cost might have become cheaper. |
That's why I said only a $50 loss instead of $70 or more.

I don't know what it will have, but in order for them to cut the price to $200 they will have either stripped out some features or be taking a ~$50 loss per machine. |
well, apparently, it still has wifi and a hard drive. I can't see what else they would remove as far as features are concerned. Maybe no USB? But then no way to charge the controllers. Who knows, really.

Yeah I don't think there is anything they could really remove. If they tried an all digital distribution PS3 with no bluray it would need a 500GB HDD or larger and I just don't see that happening. Hopefully they learned from the PSP Go.

When they change the hard drive they just change the letter or last number like cech-Z00XY, changing either x or y. The same exact hardware with differing drives usually changes the Y and has the same X. This one has a new Z, which is exactly what changed from phat to slim. |
changing internal components (from a new manufacturer) would warrent a new model, but I've really got nothing here, it seems too early for me to accept another PS3 total redesign after the last one, but it could happen I guess
they could though redesign the PS3 and keep the $299 price point like the 360 slim launched
just to point out, the last PS3 redesign, Sony used Sand Dollar Enterprise to help mask their fillings of the upcoming PS3 Slim release
http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/18/sony-sneaks-ps3-slim-through-fcc-under-pseudonym-250gb-model-di/
that's dated 18th August 2009, which is when the PS3 got announced, so E3 is a good bet that this is when we'll hear more about this, but if it is a new redesign, then why not try to cover it up again? (or is it simply not worth it for the 1000 people who search this hard for this info :P)

the older the hardware gets, the quicker the drop in cost of manufacturing.
wifi b/g, usb 2.0, HDMI 1.3, HDD... pretty much everything in the ps3 is dirt cheap now since theres improved versions of all those bits of hardware.
sony played a role in the creation of the cell and blu-ray so they must be getting massive discounts on those too.
I think they will atleast be breaking even the price drop, it would be stupid of them to start selling at a loss again when there is no need to since sales are good in comparison to other systems.
It would be great if the system with the larger HDD comes with wireless N.

well, also, the slim wasn't shown at e3, it was at tgs or something. E3 had the pspgo, and everyone was disappointed.
I don't really see them cutting more than $50 off the price to be honest in America. They may use it to make the PS3 really cheap in third world countries but I don't think Americans and Europe need price cuts.
Tease.
wait proof.
when do you think they'll rlease the PS-Slim 2
