Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg revealed that the Xbox 360 was the best selling home console for the month and a new sales figure for worldwide sales on the Xbox 360.

According to Greenberg, the Xbox 360 has now sold 54 million units worldwide since the system launched in November of 2005.

Shipped, sold what are we looking at here?

its probably shipped, but i like it better that way honestly. shipped > sold.

They were at 53.6 million shipped as of March, most likely just referring to those shipment numbers.

Considering that they had shipped 53.5m by the end of March, I think it's safe to say that these are shipped numbers. At the end of March we had 52,944,813 sales for the 360. So there was about 550k 360's on shelves/ships.

As of right now, we have 53,531,322 (Without the Americas/Japan numbers for the Week) sold Worldwide. ~53.6 Million after the full update? So ~400k on shelves/ships...? If the 54 Million is accurate, of course.

or it could mean 53.5 - 53.999 since when showing off numbers you usually round up and not down.

Last time Microsoft said 50m it was 50.8m.

Shipped, given there is speculation MS is drying the channel with these retailer cuts for a new bundle/sku - price cut at E3.

or an Xbox360 super slim plus price cut!
