Forums - Gaming - "Day One" game purchases

1. Star Ocean: The Last Hope- I haven't finished this game, so I'll let that speak for itself.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - not worth it, great game but i could get it cheaper now than when i bought it day one
Super Mario Galaxy 1 - same as the above
Metroid Prime Trilogy - again same as above, only this was supposed to be limited, i've seen it plenty of times new, and cheaper than what i payed for it.
Arkham Asylum- if i would have waited a few months i could have gotten a cheaper copy, with 3D and more LDC challenge maps
Punch-Out!! - payed almost €60, great game but again, now i can get it for less than €25
Super Smash Bros Brawl - not worth it, i'm not a fan of fighting games, mostly because i dont know anyone that likes them, so when i heard this would have multiplayer i was excited, but then i found out how much it sucked.

i mostly regret all day one purchases this gen since they drop in price really fast, and most HD games you get a gimped version if you buy it day one, better wait for the GOTY/Complete edition that usually comes with all the extra content.

Unreal Tournament III - Not the best UT game, but still alot of fun, especially with friends
Warhawk - To date probably the best Online experience to be had on the PS3

Portal 2 - Fantastic game, fantastic humor,  and great puzzles that make you think,  would love to try out that co-op feature I hear it has

God of War 3: God of War series is one of the two  reasons I Iove Playstation. So, getting God of War 3 day one was a must for me. It wasn't the masterpiece I'd hoped it would be, but it was still great. Glad that I got it day one. With the GOW Collection, it has  a very valuable place in my archive.

Gran Turismo 5: The other one of the two reasons is the Gran Turismo series. After waiting so much time, I had to buy it. Racing part was superb, but the rest of the game was a bit meh. Overall I am happy though.

Uncharted 3: I have it preordered since the day it was announced. Can't wait!

Hmm, I have a lot of games but it seems I don't like to pay full price for them lol.

Nice thread Mr. Lewis!

Anywho...

DS:

  • New Super Mario Bros.: 5/15/06 (When a new Mario game comes out, I'm there. When a new 2D Mario comes out... well I'm doubly there!)
  • Pokemon Diamond: 4/28/07 (What can I say? I'm a Pokemaniac at heart and DS' first Pokemon release was up there on my hype list. More than 250 hours later, the game has not disspointed!)
  • Pokemon SoulSilver: 3/14/10 (Another day, another Pokemon game I had to get the day it came out.)
  • Pokemon Black: 3/6/11 (Are you seeing a pattern here? When a mainstream Pokemon game is announced, I'm there day one. Black is a fantastic game (120 hours in so far) and I'll be there for the next generational Pokemon too!)

Wii:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: 11/19/06 (Wii had a couple of launch games that interested me... but Twilight Princess was the game that I had to have! This and Wii Sports really made the Wii launch shine.)
  • Rayman Raving Rabbids: 11/19/06 (Another Wii launch game, this game was a bunch of mini-games made awesome by the zaniness of the Rabbids. I love those guys!)
  • Red Steel: 11/19/06 (This was the game that you had to have with the Wii. I mean... shooting guns was cool, but sword fighting with the WiiMote? Awesome! Unfortunately, the game didn't deliver! Boo!)
  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2: 11/19/06 (I got four games when the Wii launched, and Budokai Tenkaichi 2 was one of 'em. The game was pretty darn fun, and gesturing the Kamehameha was awesome.)
  • Sonic & the Secret Rings: 2/20/07 (Wii's first Sonic game and it would be mine! The game was different, but it was still very fun!)
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: 8/27/2007 (This was the first game I bought when I went off to college, and it was an awesome experience.)
  • Super Mario Galaxy: 11/1/07 (The second best game of the generation for me. Like I said before, when a new Mario game comes out, I'm there!)
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl: 3/9/08 (The Smash Bros. series is something to get excited about. Its a game that holds so many beloved Nintendo characters [Sonic and Snake made the game even sweeter!] and it only comes out once a generation. So yeah, It released during my Spring Break... was there day one, and it was awesome!)
  • Sonic & the Black Knight: 3/3/09 (I love Sonic games. It's who I am! So I got Black Knight on day one seeing as Christmas was past and my birthday wasn't until a couple more months. It was a good game, but not great.)
  • Metroid Prime Trilogy: 8/24/09 (The game came out on my birthday, so of course I was going to get this day one! Doesn't hurt that it was a collector's series, and I wanted to get it as soon as possible!)
  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii: 11/15/09 (So what if Christmas was right around the corner, I would be playing this game as soon as I could, and that was the first day it released!)
  • No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle: 1/26/10 (I loved the zany, violent, and hilarious world of Travis Touchdown, and I wanted to be there day one for his next adventure. Great game!)
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2: 5/23/10 (Galaxy was my second favorite game of the generation, this game is my 1st favorite. I'll always be there for a new Mario game!)
  • Metroid: Other M: 8/31/10 (Metroid games usually come out right around my birthday, so having the money to get them day one isn't too difficult. It was a good game, but I was slightly disappointed with Samus' adventure.)
  • Epic Mickey: 11/26/10 (Being so close to Christmas, I only wanted to get one game... and it was either Donkey Kong or Mickey, and I chose Mickey. I don't think I made the wrong decision either, as Epic Mickey was a game that took place in my childhood's imagination. Fantastic game!)

3DS:

  • Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition: 3/27/11 (This is the only launch title I got with my 3DS, but the game is still great!)

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

I hardly go into the store on day one, since the internetz is cheaper and sadly they can hardly make sure I have it day one.

So if playing it strick on the day one time-frame it's:

Killzone 2 - worth it

Killzone 3 - not so much
