Gears is owned by Epic not MS.

TBH people talk ill about MS and 'stealing' or 'buying'  3rd party exclusives, I don't think demanding owenership of an IP is better for anyone either.

That studio is then forced to create a new IP and hope it does well, or stick to exclusivity. With timed exclusive, at least after a year they can put the game on another platform, or outright have the sequel multiplatform. Mass Effect is a good example..

But I don't expect many to agree with me around here.

Yeah but this tactic has caused many multi console owners to turn away from MS as they hardly have any exclusives. I know you've seen it all before, but MS really are not helping the consumer at all with this. Hell if they put out money to 3rd parties for real exclusives at least they would be helping to create games that might not have gotten funding in the first place.

How are they not helping the consumer? What shit is it off their nose if the game goes multi a year later unless they're  fanboy and can't handle it?

Sony and MS both go about getting thier 4rd party exclusives differently, MS pays for theirs which IS helping the studio as they can hire extra talent they otherwise might not have, gives them more freedom and time, unless we know what Microsofts money helped them achieve on the game people can't justifiyably bitch about ms just throwing money at something to spite other consoles of a game.

In the long term though, Sony forces to stick with them. This 'Oh we're so friendly and good helping you out' when actually limiting their options later, and people fawn over them like their saints for it xD

its from softwares concept though nothing wrong imo.  sony owned demon souls but it wasnt their creation as long as from software does it right its not a problem.

I would say they are decuieving the consumers by saying it is an exclusive rather than telling the truth and saying we have exclusivity for a year. That way it gives people the choice of will I buy it from MS to play now or decide to wait to play it on a platform of choice. As for myself I feel like it is cheating a big proportion of gamers out of playing the game at the same time just to twist the consumers arm into buying something from your company. I buy COD for my 360, but I still think they cheat PS3 players out of new maps and content by paying for timed exclusivity. Also any company who does this is cheating the customer, but MS are the ones doing it the most lately.

It is impossible to know how the donation benifited the game, yet it still does not take away the deception side of things.

I assume your saying limiting options by taking out the other OS and backward compatibility otherwise I don't know wht you mean in the last part. Those actions would be considered annoying to me more if it affected me, but they don't so I look at those as smaller evils. For other, I admit it could be very annoying. I just happen to care more about playing new games I want to play rather than OS or playing the ps2 games I can still play on my ps2. I will end this by saying that it would be ludicrous to say any company is a saint. Just that some things annoy me personnaly more than others.

I don't think Sony cares at all and I think their relationship with From Software is still great, hell the guys from Japan Studio are basically best buds with the guys from From Software. Sony also gets exclusivity in Japan, so that's just an extra bonus for them and they could still release a Demon's Souls 2 and get that fan base to jump on board.

I'd also like to point out to all the people in this thread saying that Sony had nothing to do with Demon's Souls development that Japan Studio had a significant hand in it's development cycle from the beginning. If anyone remembers, the game barely ran when it was being shown in previews before release, Japan Studio stepped up their game and came in and cleaned it all up.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Who says that Sony helped making the game and didn't just funded part of the development?  Do we know what was the agreeing between From Software and Sony to say FS stole the engine and style to make a game on their own?

What I believe is that From Software wanted to make a sequel to Demon Soul but Sony decided not to publish the game (see what happened when they were supposed to publish it worldwide) so From Software went to another publisher which is Namco and they requested the game to be multiplatform.

Quite likely if From Software never did this we would have never seen Demon Souls 2. It's a no brainer really, I would rather sequels get made than rely on the whims of a publisher. I never liked Sony taking control of I.P. and I have made my position clear in the past, I.P. belongs to the people who created it and are passionate about it. So in this I support From Software.
