Forums - Sony - 'They' claim Sony is second place, regarding Sales.

Hey.

I just found an interresting read in a Mag i bought some Days ago (Games Aktuell, German, Issue 94, 5/11, Page 9) regarding Hardware sales.

(Free Translation)

"The first time since the release of the PlayStation3, Sony was able to take the second rank in Worldwide Consoles sold. At the very same time, Microsofts Xbox360 drops down to place 3, how the Market-Research-Company 'Strategy Analytics' announced.

Still, both Consoles arent very far from another, Sony takes the spot with 43.4 Mil sold, while Microsofts xbox360  isnt far behind, with 42,9 Mil Units sold."

... Thats what i call a gap between those, and the VGC numbers. xD

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

It's obvious that Sony doesn't have 9M PS3 in the shelves, and MS doesn't have 13M

It's 'active' userbase, of which can't actually be measured, and the article was pushed by a sony fanboy website.

Shipped is what determines places.

... Yep.

Sony still have some way to go yet.

It's not what that article says, but I completely agree with you, the only way to measure this without any doubt is with the shipped data.

MS: 2.7 mill, Sony coming up on 25th, delayed due to tsunami I think

although active userbase and actual sold to customers cant be measured exactly to the tee i wouldnt bet against the ps3 having more active consoles WW even for some time now.

its not that hard to believe it either, for over 6 months the shipment gap has been less than 3M is that hard to fathom that over 3M rebought a 360 do to the remodel and there old 360s are in the used market waiting to be resold or just sitting in there closet, or that those with 360 HW failure simply got fed up with it possibly refailing after it was repaired and bought a new 360 instead of going through that again.

using statics data the ps3 HW failure rate isnt as high and i wouldnt believe a high rate of customers would trade in the ps2 B/C ps3s or shiny big boy PS3s for a ps3 slim when it was released

                                                                      Play Me

Articles wrong, 360 has more units sold since they had a year headstart, just because ps3 has a higher userbase, sells faster and has a brighter future doesn't mean it sold more then 360, yet

Official Playstation Magazine UK is running the same story, claiming PS3 just took first place (I guess ignoring the Wii)

No one likes to count the Wii.  Lets just have the HD consoles have their fight for "1st" place.
